    Shark Wrestling off Woody Point

Decided to brave the rain this morning so headed out from deep water bend with a mate for a fish under the highway bridge. Managed two keeper bream (25cm to the V) before the catties took over - too much fresh. Weather had cleared so headed for the mouth and skipped out to fish the northern edge of the MNP12 green zone.

Saw heaps of surface action and managed a small tuna (a first for me) but released it because it was very small and I couldn't find a legal size (is there a size?). Also caught and released the man-eater (see photo), and took home a nice sandy.

Conditions were fantastic from mid-morning onwards and had a ball chasing the tuna and boating heaps of undersized squire. We saw heaps of bait all afternoon so good luck to anyone heading out tomorrow.

Mangrove Rat: I think you are right and that it could have been a bonito. It was only about a foot long and looked like a tuna (to me) but had a green tinge to it. This is the only photo I got which isn't very good. Great fun, and felt like trying to hold the tip of a jackhammer when it was out of the water. Couldn't believe the power for its size.

bowds13: We were ne of the green zone off Woody Point not too far out, roughly in line with the Garnet and Otter rock markers. Might have led you astray by calling it a tuna.
