Bass..pfff tooo easy

In our attempts to explore different fishing around our area, The guru deckie Spud and I headed to Isis (lake gregory) for a couple of short arvo sessions chasing bass. Its about 40min from Gin Gin to be fishing.

After backing the jackaroo 14km into the water to launch the boat, we were away. 38 sec later we were casting lures.!! Its not a very big body of water, but absolutely teeming with life.

Arvo 1 we fished from 4pm to 630pm and landed 22 bass, biggest by this fella, was 47cm and smallest about 10cm...little cuties!! I got 14 spud 8.

Arvo 2- (4pm to 6pm): spuds revenge...We were greeted by a blustery SE wind, which forced us to fish some protected weed edges. In typical 'cant be beaten' attitude, Spud proceeded to put 4 in the boat biggest 42cm, before I could land a fish. In the end, we landed 12 (6 all) with both desperatley trying to land 1 more for bragging rights before the end of the session.
..
All fish were caught casting both weed edges and pockets of deeper water surrounded by weed...this was fun trying to extract them!!! Mostly using plastics, blades, and betspins with plastics.....great fun on light gear, and yet another awesome option rather than barra in our area..I needed an excuse to dust off the bass gear again after borumba. I will post some pics tonight, the wife has the SD card printing of another 34000 kid pics in town!!!

Nice Mr McMoon. How much fun are they on light gear? We haven't been fishing since Borumbah, hope to get out this weekend. Have you got an S2 yet? Were they many 'If there's a god moments'? Have you changed your mind yet and decided to come camping down here at easter? I'll bring the popcorn!!

Its a great little spot Steve ..... & you are right about the launching.

As I said to you a couple of weeks back , I was surprised that you had not fished the duckpond (up to that weekend)

The bass there do punch above their weight & when you use light gear - great fun too

So "the duck pond" will be our am - fishing spot over the next few trips while we wait for the water to warm up & the barra to come on the chew

Thats a great little pond steve,certainly some good bass in there.
Sounds like you had some great sessions,keep telling my brother to go have a crack at them as he lives 5klm up the road.

we had a weekend there a month back with a few mates and i landed some great fish the biggest going 520mm to the tip and another 4 over 500 its a great little dam ,launching was interesting i had to reverse back quite quickly to get the boat to release of the rollers but forgot to tie it on ,it took off into the dam and i had to have a bit of a swim to get it felt like a reel di.....d

Kim, S2 is on order..!!! bought a symetre on E bay for a good deal. $77 bucks...brand new!! sorry my love, cant camp down there at easter....would need a snorkel by the sounds of things!! Still camping up this way at a mates property. kids, motorbikes, horses....refreshments!! h ah ha...ha should be a great weekend.!!

Chris, yeah I know...but why fish bass, when the barra are there?? I have just realised the enjoyment I used to have for these little fighters!!

hkconc, I probably should have explained it better....the water level never changes...its a balancing storage.....but the ramp is flat under water.....you need to back in about 20 mtrs to get a drop off for the trailer.....it looks like your car is in the middle of the lake nearly!!!.....its a hard bottom and you dont even need 4x4 but it looks funny..

Warrior....mate if I live 5 min away I would be there most days off for some fun....It scares the crap out of you when the gun club over the hill starts letting off some rounds....I was ducking for cover the first time!!!! I thought I was under attack!!!!! I am sure they had machine guns!!!

Hi Steve, sounds like a good little lake worth checking out. Your getting a good mix a species of late between you Jack trips and now Bass trips. Bass are great fun especially when they make your drag scream. - Richard

Yeah Richard, they are fun hey....I love the sound of a screaming 1500 spin reel!! I had forgotten how hard they hit too. Definalty good fun...I guess all my attention over the past few years has been barra, There is so many other fish to catch around here.....but barra at mondy is still the No 1 for me.....I am planning on a big barra assault over the next few months.....bass and jack gear back in the cupboard!!!
