Noosa River boating info pls

The little lady wants to go "overnighting" (dont ask) so am contemplating Noosa River system for a few days.

Would greatly appreciate any advice on where to launch, things to see /do, places to fish etc etc

Lots...fish are a challenge but lots to see.

you can go across the two lakes to the national park and the Everglades area... nothing like the real everglades but nice clean unspoiled countryside. The lakes themselves are very open and shallow so you pretty much have to just cross them in the marked channel. Vistor centre on the Nth side of second lake (Cootharaba) is Kinaba Point where you can get maps of the everglades area and local info..last time I was there it was very shallow approaching the Visitor Centre dock and needed care...sandy bottom....lots of canoes...every canoe you run down is worth 200 frequent flyer points....JUST KIDDING CANOOISTS...!

Very pretty.. camping upstream at Harry's Landing...I dont think you are supposed to sleep on your boat on the water in the NP but dont know that for a fact. Power boats are only allowed a little bit further than Harry's Landing (which is road accessible) but canoes can go lots further.

Launch at Tewantin main ramp immediately upstream of the small marina between Noosaville and Tewantin..good ramp. Watch for marked reef shallow immediately Nth of ramp...upstream. Distance Tewantin to Harry's Landing approx 35km...lots of nice river with different ecologies on the way. Dont play chicken with the car ferry a few KM nth of the ramp, and honour the channel markers as there are shallow sections particularly between Tewantin and the first lake (Cooroiba)

Well I cant promise that. I am not aware of any car theft problems from the parking area there but it would be worth his while to ask around a bit. The main ramp and park is in the main street of Noosaville only 1km further towards the mouth and would probably be safer as it is right on the main street...and somewhat lit... but I dont know..?
What does happen and has happened to me is that boats moored overnight on the river around Noosaville - Tewantin are at risk of kids in dinghys stealing everything left on board...happened to me once only. Sufficiently common for the police to yawn when I tried to report it.

On second thoughts I would probably park at Noosaville backed up to a tree or similar where it is very public and well lit. Cnr Gympie Tce and Thomas Street. Mal use the ramp closer to the mouth if tide is low...high tide both are OK

If you're worried about your car and trailer being knocked off, you can always leave it at the Hilton Terrace lock up area. This is located at the fuel station adjacent to the roundabout across from the tewantin bowls club.

Cheap too.

Good one Jeff...I didnt know they did short term storage... just get picked up by boat from end of street (Hilton Esp) not 50M away...this is halfway between Nossaville ramps and Tewqantin ramps. If you are looking at a map Mal this is where Hilton Esp runs off Hilto Tce and goes around the riverfront

Just be careful in the lake channels around low tide. I've sucked a bit of mud there before...

Depends on the size of your boat???? We do day trips to Harry's hut. Niiiice.

I've done overnighters around woods bay area. There's good wind protection, plenty of trevs, tailor etc, & lots of shops around for food/drinks.

Hell, if you get cabin fever send the wifey down hastings street while you duck outside to tow some lures offshore.

It's quite exhilarating having an early skinny dip at the mouth too.

Guys - thanks one & all for the info - just fantastic.

I have a HH560+pod drawing approx 0.6m of water to float /putter along trimmed out.

Dan's idea of the wifey down hastings street while you duck outside to tow some lures offshore has really got me thinking - gotta be some serious fishing in this venture somewhere - right ?

Only trouble is "she" will pass up Hastings St for a chance of some mack or hoo blood across the transom, even if its across the Noosa Bar (weather /tide permitting) - yep, she's a keeper

I was thinking of some NP trips also.

Great to know about the lockup.

I haven't been to the upper Noosa for 20+ years & I've been wanting to do a trip up there but leery about ute/trailer left at a ramp for a few nights.

The lakes are quite shallow so stick to the channels. Also, the wind tends to make the water very rough especially in the afternoon.
When we made trips up there by canoe, we always aimed to cross to Boreen Point by lunchtime.

well now that I think about it there are lots of hire houseboats on the river so sleeping onboard may be OK.... maybe there are discharge regulations..?

Re camping on your boat - Campsite 3 is the limit for combustion powered crafts unless your boat has an electric engine and once above it, unless your boat has a toilet, I would think that you'd have to book a site as you'd have to land somewhere for toilet breaks and you can only use campsites for that.

As Harries Hut & campsite 3 are accessible to vehicles (and day trippers) you may not need to book a campsite.

However, the rangers may take the view that camping on a boat is still camping and you need to have a camping permit.
