fishing reefs out from gold coast seaway
Gday all, was hoping someone could help me with the locations of the 12 and 20 fathom reefs out from the gold coast seaway. i haven't fished out there before apart from a charter trip a few years ago where i think we fished the 24 fathom reef which is a fair way out.
my brother is coming over from nz and i would like to take him out, i live in brissy but the only decent reef fishing out from there is outside moreton island and its a bit far to go and im not experienced enough out there so thought it would be better to go out from the seaway not having to worry about going thru a dangerous bar and only being up to 10km from shore.
We would be chasing snapper, spanish mackerel and kingfish, any help on the best way to fish would be much appreciated as well seeing as im a fly fisher originally.
Tight Lines!

Here's a few general marks that should get you started: http://www.fishnet.com.au/information/gps/goldc.txt
GC Seaway can be an extremely dangerous bar - especially on run out tide....there has been many a boat that has fallen victim to it due to complacency/inexperience/bad luck.

Rosco,
good spots which hold fish off the Gold Coast are as rare as hens teeth, plus there is ALOT of fishing pressure there. There are no shortage of marks on the net, but you will find alot of fairly flat ground with no shows. If you are not familiar with the area, you are very unlikely to connect with any decent snapper, mackeral or kingies.
The snapper in my avtar was taken on a reef 30 km NE from the seaway, and I have also caught cobes and jew at the same spot. Took me 7 years to get that mark off a mate.
I would suggest a good charter, or go somewhere you are familiar with if you want to put someone onto a fish.
