chasing trevs aound the sunny coast!
hey fellas with easter coming up means theres fishing to be done. i will be staying at caloundra from the friday to the monday an plan to target trevs which id say will be gt's, big eyes an goldens an the odd queenie if i luck out. i have a few spots picked out around caloundra first being the canal mouth at pelican waters iv seen the fish bust up there abit but never had the chance to fish it i plan to throw bubble pop 45's an rover 50's in silver an white i think they look spot on like a small mullet. how exactly do u get the rovers to work to there full capabilities id guess walk the dog but how do u achieve that properly. i plan i getting down to happy valley throw big poppers an slugs for trevs an tailor. im having trouble deciding on what larger popper for them. either roosta 110, bubble pop 110/130 or the river2sea dumbell 110? not sure which lure has the best action for what i need i also wanna throw the bigger popper around bulcock beach an the mouth of the passage for some good size gt's cause i know the are there. can any one help me out with the lure issue an if my spots iv picked sound good an is there a certain time to fish them. sorry for the long thread an all the questions iv just been trying for so long to get a good trev on a popper after meany tries. any ideas would be great!
cheers

No idea about caloundra or trevs but for the tailor most poppers will do the job. My favourite though is the roosta 135. Heavy enough to get them out a bit with a big cup face that throws a lot of water. Try a fast retrieve and also bloop them along especially near some wash.

Mate if you head up to Noosa at all, try in front of the Sheraton Hotel. I got belted buy a +50 trev but lost it at the rocks and the same thing happened the next morning (didnt see what the other fish was though)a few small ones in between to. Hope you have a ball.
Cheers, Mick.

Hey mate walking the dog is faily straight forward. Twitch the lure with your'e rod and then bring it back towards the lure allowing slack line between each twitch, reel in some slack and twitch again and so on. As for poppers in the sudsy stuff time your'e cast so as to retrieve it between waves. And the big bubble pops are the best casting and popping lures IMO. Skipping poppers on a flat out retrieve also work well on occasions so just experiment a bit. Ben

ok with the rover 50's you are not the only one having trubble walking them. i dont think they realy put a lot of thort in to the desine of the lure because the weight of the lure is set way to far forwad to achieve a constant walking action, it tends to stay straight and go,s under a lot, the way to combat this is to use smaller, lighter hook and adding weight to the tail, this will make it sit tail down (like a proper walk the dog) and will improve its action ten fold. you dont need much weight as the lures are not verry boyent and will sink if ya use to much weight. the weight on the tail helps heaps with casting distance too as it flys tail first and sits flat thrugh the air insted of spinning and loosing speed. if they just took the time to put the weight in the right spot, thay would have been a killa. try the mod dude, it works good
