Any tips on fishing near the mouth of the Brisbane River?
Any tips on fishing near the mouth of the Brisbane River? We are newbies at the area, and any suggestions for the mouth of the river or near to the mouth would be welcolme. And what could you expect to catch?
Thanks,

Mate, send a pm to Chief. He is THE MAN when it comes to fishing the river. Or just have a look at some of his reports. Do a search in the estuary and bay section under brisbane river.

smacka, hit up chief the guy is worht his weight in gold, and nice as pie. I would suggest that you try the sunken rock wall at pinkenbah, then head out towards the mouth and try the numbered pilons along the pipeline, I find around the 105 is where it drops off pretty hard. Also give the mouth of the river a go especially around the rockwall don't be afraid to go about 50mtrs out from the rock wall and you can usually land some nice fish.....

Re: Any tips on fishing near the mouth of the Brisbane River?
I have done the odd but there mate and theer's some great fishign. Launch from Pinkenba, head left. Only problem is the shite on the bottom of the river ie chemicals. There was a story in teh Courier a couple of weeks ago about the level of toxins sitting in the mud at the mouth, so I'm pretty cautious about going the chew on anything i cathc there, especialy since crsutaceans etc feed on that mud, and fish feed on the crustaceans. Dunno, it's a tough one.
plenty of catfish and stingrays so be prepared for that. Also sharks everywhere. But worth a trip, it's interesting because you're right out amongst all these huge ships etc. Also, watch the wash. The big ships have none at all but the cats going to Moreton and some of the other boats can produce some wave.
cheers jim

Hey Buddy
I sugest look for structure, if u have a sounder look for bait 2, there is various different wharves between the gate way and the mouth that have great structure and bait, the only thing 2 watch 4 is that little sign that says stay 30m or risk 50 penalty units, the problem is taht they r usually the bette wharves to fish little vibes soft plastics or live bait can get u on to anything from a bream, flatty, cod, snap, jew, or thready.
If theres no bait at a particular wharf i would make a move.
Also there lots of rock walls, drop offs, and creek mouths 2 try.
Personally i think the mouth takes a while 2 work out, but once u find ur own little spots it can b very rewarding.
Cheers Simon
