MK,
Take the Crab Pots !!! Both locations are famous for there Mud Crabs !!!
Get your pots close into the mangroves at high tide, retrieve/re-bait on the next high tide. Don't be concerned if the pots are left high & dry on the low tides.
Regards
Craigie.

Dont know much about Turkey Beach but after the 100 km track to Stanage you will need a beer first and then chat to the locals. There is a jew hole on the other side of the boat ramp and if your heading out watch the swell it can get pretty nasty. Cheers Pete

Calm weather at Stanage will see you venturing south along the coastline joining the hundred or so dots of reef to be explored. Mid winter with the westerlies seems to be about the best of times there with flat seas and big spanish hanging around.
I would also suggest that the dirty water line leading out into Shoalwater bay from Thirsty Sound is always worth a troll along as the baitfish tend to school just in the clearer side of the line and big critters soon have breakfast there.
Generally a troll around first light is the best then hit the rocky and coral reefs heading down the coast.

12 foot should be fine around turkey. if it turns pear shaped you can still swim home. Be very very careful at stanage tide against wind etc as it isnt that hard to put the nose under, i have put my 15 footer under a few times and good luck swimming home, a few lizards up that way. Go up there smallish tides and youll be right.
Cheers
