I FINALLY received my incident number today, with the addition that I won't be charged with anything following the incident... heh.

Too late to do anything before I go camping though, so I'll have to sort it out when I get back.

Re: My boating has come to an end...

Just had a call from my insurer... They want to send someone around to do a valuation on the boat.

I'm now taking bets as to whether they'll live up to their reputation or not... Offering pathetically low ammounts that any sane person would agree do not represent a true market value on the boat. The market value being an ammount at which any sane buyer and seller would agree on.

Perhaps I'll be pleasantly suprised, but I'm gearing myself up mentally for a fight and gathering examples of similar boats for sale, in similiar condition and of similar age so that I can immediately begin my campaign to be treated fairly.

I've been burned in the past, though not in the same way.. But I did learn that it pays to be prepared ahead of time.

EDIT: Strike that, there pretty much isn't anything. Which makes sense as I did buy it on its uniqueness in that it was alone above the pack when it came to price, age, quality, type and size.
I'll have to wait to see what they offer and then show them every boat I can find for sale in that price range. Unless it's significantly higher (in $) than the quote for repairs there won't be anything of a worthwhile purchase in the list.

Here's me again getting all worked up prematurely...

Don't stress too much... my last three insurance claims have been extremely pain less.

They phoned today to ask that I fax the claim form and quote again so that they can pass it on to the assessor... I then get a call from him on the mobile (the mrs had it) stating that he was coming around tommorow to check the boat out.... I wonder if the left knows what the right is doing? He can look at the originals when he is here! I'll fax them copies for him anyway, perhaps he needs his own set?

At the moment the boat has been wiped down and everything has been taken out.

I would have liked to give it a better clean, but on short notice it'll have to do.

    I hope all goes well...

    All done...

I didn't have time to tidy myself or brush my teeth, so I'm amazed that he didn't die on the premises! HAHA

He's going to authorise the repairs, thankfully. I also let him take the original copies of the claim form etc, made more sense than sending them through. I've got photographs of them for my own reference anyway.

We'll get a full service done on the outboard whilst it's with port o call, give it a good spit and polish when we get it back all repaired and then put it on the market and see what happens.

Not sure what will happen then.. I'm leaning towards three options.. a) clear out the loan and look toward owning another boat in a year or so, b) purchase a tinny that's a little more fishing orientated, a hortnet, dory or something along those lines or c) purchase a kayak and use that for my fishing.

    Will see will see...

One thing is for sure... I've learned my lesson. From now on I'm going to show boating the patience and care it deserves.

Got the call today, she's ready to be picked up, so I'll do that tommorow.

Not so sure I'll be getting rid of her in the short term, the market looks way too cheap, so I would probably have a rough time recouping enough to pay out my loan, which is significantly less than my purchase price last year. It might pay for me to bide my time and look at selling it once it warms up again.

That said, if anyone has a good tinny they want to trade

    Matt,

If the boat has been fixed properly, then why not keep it?
    Cheers,
    Leigh (Kero).
