Sounds like a great idea to me, with one proviso - an exemption for Australian citizens
What is it they are trying to "protect" ?
What is the current "take" estimates for this area ?
Where will this supply have to come from if they shut this area down ? Will it be to the further detriment of other places in the World....the ones that get held up and used as an example of what might happen here if no action is taken ?
Are there any religious people here that read somewhere in the Bible that God put the animals here for us to eat ?
Fighting this sort of behaviour from an insignificant perspective of a hobbyist (fisherman) is futile (as has been seen for the past few years).
Personally I think the fight should be made from a moral and ethical point of view - that's what the greenies have been doing for decades. Forget using economics as one of the major arguments - that doesn't cut it with those a little soft in the head.
Questions like
"Is it fair that Australia should put such extra pressure on the third world countries and their inhabitants by not fishing our owm areas ?"
"Is it right to see babies, women and children starving around the world because we developed nations rape their shores to feed our own ?"
"If we can't supply the demand from our own waters and export the produce, how on earth are the little people going to eat?"
Has anyone got Sir Bob Geldof's number ?
