Got some 'Coco' runout prawns and barra in the veins

    Friday. Wind warnings. No worries.

Early start yielded nil but once the tide dropped below the mangroves the place lit up with prawns and mullet being smashed by barra in the gutters. Trolling didn't work so we anchored up in the best looking spots and tried some target shooting with lures. It worked.

Classic NT style runout fishing - gutters draining into the channels. Boated 2 and Curmudgeon dropped one on a squidgee.

Broke out the nets and hammered the prawns as well for 3-4 kg of edible prawn.

I've added an extra couple of shots from a walk-in trip we did a couple of weeks ago fishing the 'runoff'.

    Cheers

Sounds like fun.... How did you go hiking on foot, i only see one photo.

With all this wind around i think the land based barra are going to be a hot target over the next week or so.

    Well done boys

    Ta guys.

F4L you must be one-eyed - there's only one of me in the boat...

It's not as bad it looks fellas but the chinee apple and lantana was a bit of a bitch in places. We made it to the mudflats and with a higher tide, these small channels were getting flooded and my skitterpop was getting hammered by small barra/jacks every other snag or mangrove. WILD!!

PS Curm and I are Coco'ing again today - using livies - gonna see if we can get a big momma.

    Yeah Josh, I was there.

Coco was pretty damn good last Friday. It was somewhat less than awesome yesterday, unfortunately for us.

As for stumbling around in head high grass the other week; I was more worried about pigs than crocs. We found a nice little lagoon with barra and tarpon in residence. All little stuff, but good fun. We probably missed the real run-off period by about a week. The feeder streams had slowed to a trickle.

    Cheers,
    Brian.

I was talking to a guy today who was fishing the flats over near coco last saturday and landed 6 barra between 64 - 87cm.

There's definately a few around at the moment if you can locate them. I'v been having some fun down at aplins with them on poppers just on dusk, unfortunately they are not the bright silver salties that i'm chasing though.

    Cheers
