Southern Morton Bay - What Rods

    Hey

Have just joined the MBTBC and have a 4.9 mtr top ender clone.

Have some good bream / flattie gear.

What else should I have for fishing the bay out from Manly? What are the other common species that I will hopefully encounter and what gear would you suggest.

I am hoping to hit the shops tomorrow.. Bream and Lizards are my bread and butter, but wanted to buy some other rods / reels / lines so I am kitted up.. and before my wife finds my cash stash.. lol

    Any advice would be great..

    Cheers,
    Steve

Are you looking at fishing plastics baits or both?

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing rods.

    Hey Steve,

This time of year is starting to enter prime snapper season. If fishing plastics in the bay, i'd suggest a 3-5 or 4-7 kg graphite rod with a 2500 or 3000 size reel. 10lb braid.

I have a berkley dropshot 2-4kg rod with a 2500 size Tierra with 20lb braid for the plastics and a Shimano 3500 baitrunner on a 3-5kg live fibre these combos both come in the $350-$450 dollar range however if you look at these sizes you cant go wrong.

There are a lot of good combos out there a lot cheaper so it will come down to budget and personal choice.

Hey Russ, 20lb braid is a bit heavy to be using on a 2-4kg rod isnt it ?

Yep for sure but that rod and reel punches well above its weight so I opted for a heavier line I also use the combo up here for the Barra (as soon as I can get out)
