Well at last, I get to post a report on some success in the Bay. Invited the new girl friend “Alli”out for a fish and to do a bit of cruising. After dropping her son off at school etc etc it was 9.45 before we hit the water at Raby Bay.![]()
Headed out NW of peel and came across a school of dolphins, they were jumping and mucking around the boat so we took a few photos, I spotted birds feed to the west of our position, we head over and first cast was into a long tail. I was not making a lot of progress so I got the Alli to put boat in gear so I could get some line back, all was going well until I said “just go a bit faster”, well the next thing, I was nearly over the backand the fish was gone.

Didn’t matter as the fish were feeding well, and it was not long before we had 1 mac tuna and a 5kg long tail on board thanks to a great net work by Alli. I hooked into another long tail and handed her the rod, she was going well until she gave the fish a bit of slack line and then it was all over. We then moved to Harry Atkinson reef of a bit of fun with all the under size squire. Took some more photos of the resident dolphins. There was plenty of live bait so Alli got stuck into them while I stuck a floater out the back and one on the bottom. After a couple of hits & misses on the bottom I hooked into something but ended up getting bricked on the reef. Then the float went off and just a quickly it stopped I wound it in to find the 30 kg trace had been bitten cleanly through.
By this time it was 2 pm and time to head for home, the weather was perfect and there were very few boat out to my surprise, I might have seen 12 odd all day. It turned out to be a great day on the water and fun was had by all.
Cant post any photos just yet, Alli’s PC is on the blink and I forget to download them on mine before she left , as soon as I can hold of them I will put them up.
