I tried North Pine Dam yesterday morning. The water has risen quite a lot and it's a real pain trying to find a place to cast that may also hold a fish or two.
I walked for ages across gullies and through the scrub to find one lone bass.
Of late the dam has been a very tough place to fish.
It was an absolutely beautiful morning and the photo turned out OK so I thought I'd share it with you.
Certainly is a different dam this year.
Nice fish LGM. Looks like you maybe in for a bit of a challenge. I can imagine it'd be frustrating, having to start from scratch, when you have gotten to know the dam so well.

Know how you feel Micheal. Been out a few times at Hinze for zero result or a very small bass when I was anticipating a cracker session. Nice photo by the way. Did you buy your new rod yet? - Richard
Too right Kim, the most frustrating part about this place is I know where the fish are, but I just can't reach them. Huge amount of bird activity on the point that morning but you'd need a wetsuit to get anywhere near them. When you fish North Pine you have to come to the realisation that most times you'll pick up the bass feeding on the edge of the schools. Sometimes a hard working fisho hits the jackpot as Hardb8 and Dinododog have shown us in the past. When the water level hits 50% all bets are off, the bass had better watch out !!!Originally Posted by themissus
Yeh, if It's only one fish caught it helps if its a good one....it was about 35 fork length, not huge but a well conditioned fish none the less.
Cheers mate. thats a nice little spot that one. Nice deep water that drops sharply from the bank..two steps out from the bank and you'd be swimming.
Not yet mate. I put another tip on the old one and used it. Didn't like it though. I'll be getting another this weekend. The old one can go in the spares pile.

Had a very early morning session with the canoe on Sat in the river below the dam using surface lures.
Ended up with 6 for 2 hours fishing. Sizes ranges from 15 to 38 cms.
Went back Sunday & skunked out.

Looks good down there....I've never fished it but I did have a paddle in there a while back with my boy. We saw bass hitting insects in the shallows. The water would have been no more than a foot deep and we spooked at least three fish going for one poor bug. They all took off in different directions making lines in the mud.
yeah, lots of shallow water there, that's why I prefer morning until the sun is just visible or a late afternoon/evening sessions. Gotta love those surface strikes!!
Mossies can be a pain at night!!
It's a shame that the waterboard has put all those rocks there so you can't park off the road.
