    Spetone Drifter Problem

    Hey

I just purchased my new boat. Its a 16 foot Stejcraft fibreglass runabout with a 70hp Johnson outboard.

I am in the process of detailing the boat and have washed the boat with septone drifter. The top of the boat, transom and outboard all came up fantastic, however the sides of the boat have been left with what looks like water stains. The septone has left the paint on the side all patchy, it looks as though there are water marks except they are in the paint.......

Can anyone suggest what has happened and how to fix it?

Any help would be much appreciated, I cant understand why every other part of the boat came out fine except for the sides......

    Cheers

    Re: Spetone Drifter Problem

I do believe that Septone drifter is actualy Phosphoric Acid based and as such the acid may have bleached/stained the paint, by the way is it paint or Gel coat.

I would hit it again with the gelcoate restorer trying to keep it as even as possible.. as Noelm says its just an acid

The sides of the boat are painted with 2 pac.

One side of the boat seems to have come up fine - streak free.

I wonder if the previous owner polished the side of the boat that has streaked???? would applying septone drifter to a polished surface make a difference?

Anyhow I will give it another go tonight and see if it makes any difference.....

    Cheers for such fast replies

Problem solved, cleaned all old polish off side of the boat and repeated the cleaning process. Looks bloody awesome!

    Cheers for all the help!

    Re: Spetone Drifter Problem

you need to hit it with a decent wax now as the gelcoate restorer would have taken whatever wax was on there off.

yep I followed with use of meguiars oxidation remover, then meguiars high gloss polish then meguiars marine wax. Cost me a bit but very happy with results
