If it made a few "Bolts" it would be a fitter and turner not a fish !!!

(Tongue in cheek)
When a fish is hooked and makes a dash for freedom (not Freeeeedom) why do we call it a "run" - fish have no legs?
Why don't we call it a more bloke-like term like "bolt" - "It's making another bolt".
What other suggestions do you have?

A bit like doing the russion spy and getting the hell out of there....Nickenov Yapisenovsky.
Maybe he can be 'skeedaddling away'.
Or 'darting away'
Greg
"darting away " only for little flat silver fish in the surf.
"i'm hooked up" - up where you clown, the fish are down there!
"i'm on!"- yes you are on the boat, on the water- what are you carrying on about idiot?
Cheers Scott
Flibble. They flibble. Always have, always will.

Carbon Really Ain't Pollution.
Haven't you ever caught a fish with legs?
i want to know who dives down there and gets all the fingers off the fish to sell in the supermarket freezers.
Mike
I usually yell out. AAAAAAAGH !!! the fish is displacing more water with violent and erratic thrusts from its powerful tail, propelling it in a forward as well as downward motion while still attached to my fish catching string . The fish is probably thinking "QUICK.....Flibble the hell outta there !!! "
Good thread...very thought provoking.

Its like the version of "Stone the Crows" = Castigate the carrion cockatoos!
Or "It'd blow a dog off the chain" = Cyclonically remove a canine from his tethering apparatus. Is cyclonically a word LOL?

Does the gurnard count?
They look like insect legs growing out of its throat. Have a look at the video of a deep-sea species of gurnard.

For tuna, don't they go cyclonically when they flibble?
{go in circles around whilst they flap around}
Cheers,
