hi.im at it again.this time i'm rebuilding my late bros rod.10ft one piece butterworth he built himself in late 70s.the rod was a bit of a mess the rod varnish was all patchie so i striped it with a hobbie knife and removed all the old guides cut off the old reel seat and it come up pretty good.ill give it a lite sanding and start the rebuilding soon after i buy some choice parts for it .the problem is that its been tucked away for so long it has a permanant curve at the tip of about 20 mm for about the last 800 mm is there any way to re-straighten the rod by a bit of preset and a little heat or should i just do the rebuild as is.not hard to find the spine anyway cheers peter.

thanks stu for your offer i dont know what area your in but im in bonbeach vic i did try a little heat on the rod with not much success but i didnt want to over do it either
Heat is the only way to get a bend out of a rod blank. You need to bend the blank a fair bit more opposite to the bend and then warm the blank to the point that you can’t hold it for more then 2 seconds. Let it cool on its own, once cool or warm take the blank and see if it’s straight or still bent. If the bend is still visible then repeat the process. This will take several attempts but it will be straight as an arrow. I sent a pm with my phone number to talk you through the process if you’re not confident.
well i did it,i bought a blow torch to get some more heat into the blank and was thinking about it while i was watching the footy this weekend.being a cold day i had the heater on and bingo the light came on, so i marked the area with tape and put a line on the top of the curve, sat it in front of the heater and the rest is history.got it straight as.now for the rest of the rebuild, should turn out nice and i'll send in some pix thanks for your input. peter
