    Gidday Big Red,
I recently came back from a holiday with the wife and kids, had a day free from the family, and grabbed a guide. First time fishing with one but totally recommend it. Lure and fly specialist and good company as well. I kept a card in case I ever get back up there. His name was Kieran Livingston, he calls himself "fishing the north" and his ph no. is 040212998. Hope this helps

    Hi Bigred77
A mate of mine was up in cairns a few weeks back with work and went out on Blackoutsport fishing charters, only takes out a few guys at a time they bagged out on six different types of fish. (http://www.blackoutsportsfishing.com/)

Blackout has a good reputation up hee and I have talked to Him once or twice at the ramp and he's seems a good bloke , gave me a bit of advice for the reef .
As for land based there are a fe spots that I used to go to and don't frequent any more cause of boats
1 the jetty at Palm cove they tell me still goes off but you need to be there early .
2 the landing at deeral boat ramp , still gets a few jack there I know from friends.
3 Red bank boat ramp after dark , just off to the side is a high banked area you can fish from as well float a bait down the side and fish a rigged mullet out in the centre to 3/4 way out .
4 second beach high tide only around the rocks and sometime prawns
5 tube the mulgrave with light spin gear and pick up mainly bream but occasionly a jungle pearch .
6 hire a dolphin hire boat and throw lures around the inlet or just soak a bait in the snags just where ever you go bring bushmans spray or get carried away .

I used to go away alot up the cape fishing and now only go occassionally and when I do go ,I only keep to eat that night with only an exceptionall fish brought back. reason catch enough to eat fresh fish from the cairns inlet , and close reefs when its not blowing up .

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day , teach a man to fish and feed him for life .

Thanks for the info from me as well. I am heading up there by plane on the 20th for a week but won't be taking my rods. I hope to get out on a charter or two.

Any further info would be appreciated. Big Red is apparently up there aleready, so I hope he excuses me hijacking his thread.

Yep been out with Noreseman numerous times and it is great. The reef out from Port Douglas is much closer than out from Cairns so more fishing time less travelling. The boat is also big as well. There is only one thing though most people use handlines but it didn't affect me kmuch because I used rod and reel.

Hey champ my cousin works with 'Fishing the tropics' out of Cairns number is 07 40581820, he is only there for another couple weeks as he has just bought Blue Water Fishing Charters at Noosa QLD, so if you in that area i can line you up with him and 'Cougar One' 37foot Cat with Twin 300hp 4stroke Suzis, fishing the tripics run an 8metre centre console and score anything from Nanagai to Coral trout and Spanish macs, plus many more species, hope ya score!!
