    Government Green Zone Ads Removed

    Andrew Fraser | February 26, 2009

    Article from: The Australian
THE Queensland Government will take off air its advertisements about new fishing zones in Moreton Bay, but will keep all other government-funded advertising on air for the duration of the election campaign.
Liberal National Party frontbencher Mike Horan said yesterday the ALP was gaining an unfair advantage in the campaign by letting the taxpayer-funded advertisements continue.
Taxpayer-funded advertisements running on television include one by television personality Jana Wendt urging women to have a screening for breast cancer, while another points out that there is a "dark side" to tanning.
A proposed advertising campaign to support changes in fishing zones in Moreton Bay that come into effect from Sunday will now not go to air because the LNP has promised to repeal the legislation if it comes to power at the polls.
The advertisements were due to go to air from tonight, but Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said yesterday that they had beenpulled.
"On that matter there is a significant policy difference between the National Party and Labor," Ms Bligh said.
"It is going to be the subject of political debate during the campaign, so it is not appropriate to air those advertisements."
Mr Horan said press and television ads had been running hot since the election was announced.
He said government advertising campaigns for Q2, health, Treasury, public works, environment, housing and education, training and the arts had all been spotted in Queensland newspapers and on commercial TV.
"Under caretaker conventions, Ms Bligh should put a stop to all government advertisements, which have been funded by Queensland taxpayers," Mr Horan said. "During the 09 campaign, Labor has been tipped to outspend Lawrence Springborg and the LNP five-to-one on political advertisements, and to use multi-million-dollar, taxpayer-funded ads for Ms Bligh's election campaign is an insult to Queenslanders.
"No wonder we face a mountain of $74 billion debt in Queensland, and are borrowing more money to fund wages for nurses, teachers and police officers."

    Heya Derek

I have been running over the LNP policies and Borgs website as well as checking media releases and cannot find anything that supports " the LNP has promised to repeal the legislation if it comes to power at the polls."

It will certainly make a difference to how I vote if it is proven correct. However until such time as it is released as policy or confirmed by the LNP I have the feeling this is another plant like we went through earlier in the year. "Repeal" would be a very silly word for them to use, and actually opens up another can of worms.

Does that mean they will not enforce the new laws until after the election then?

I am sure the labour side would like it to be thaught that the LNP would repeal the recent green zone legeslation.

All this gree zone stuff is a vote winner among the greenish voters and the uninformed.

It has been said that green perferences will be worth a lot in this election.

I do not believe that the LNP would be stupid enough to say the word " repeal", the words "review" or "ammend" would be more likley.

as for the William McInnes adds... so they should be shut down... they are nothing but government propaganda appealing to those with greenish tendencies.... and saying how wonderfull and marvelous it is.

    cheers

Gotta agree there. I question whether they would have the power - review in 5 years time and all.

Stil waiting for official LNP policy release on this. Who is their environment spokesperson?

Guys get over it green zones are a part of life deal with it, or fish in them, get a criminal record for life loose your boat, trailer, car, and all your gear.

No sympathy for anyone that does. We in the north have had to learn to live with it so I am sue you all can.

If the LNP gets elected will they remove the green zones in the north? I think not.

Hmmm just come back from the boat rally.

Seems the LNP do have an interesting position on marine parks, green zones and a few other things

Announced today......be sure to watch the news

their current position is....if I have it right

They are not happy with the science behind the green zones andother stuff.

    AND

If elected they will institute a complete "review" of the moreton bay marine park thing......mean while..... we would be allowed to fish one line in the green zones as currently gazetted.

    and

While the LNP sopkesman didn't commit to a time... they believe it is reasonable that a review would roll on state wide.

They seem to be strongly "for" science bassed decisions regardmg the enviroment and fisheries management.

    Any way we shall see.

Watch that space...... not this one that one

    cheers
