    Expensive Straddie Weekend !!!

Just a note to remind everyone to get a 4 x 4 beach permit whilst on Straddie.

Boys weekend - 7 blokes - 2 vehicles. Half of us had been before, but half were green horns. All was organised, Beer, Barges, Food, Fishing gear etc etc. One vehicle still has a valid beach permit - but we need to get another.

On the island, the brain gets put into neutral and the beach permit gets forgotten about. Not deliberate - an honest mistake.

Of course the ranger nabs us and can you believe the fine is $375 !!

We accept we were stupid - someone should have remembered but with an annual permit at $44 the fine is pretty bloody steep !!

Yeah thats a crazy fine... I can undertsand it being substantial enough to deter people from evading fees but over 8 times the inital yearly permit seems unaustralian and blatent revenue raising.

Don't even start me on speeding and parking fines.....
Not enough time in the day, to many spots to fish!

    OOOOOOHHHhh that hurts.

I guess you probably still have to buy the permit as well. Or are they kind enough to throw that in for the $375

Unfortunately for you Justin a heap of people regularly 4WD Straddie beaches without permits, cutting up the dunes and being on the beaches too close to the high tides.

As a result the fine is large to try to encourage the idiots to do the right thing.

Understand it was an honest oversight in your case - but if you break the law you pay the fine......at least you won't forget next time.

Always a good idea to get the permit before you go to Straddie just so you don't forget in the excitement of getting there!

    $44.

    Cheap at half the price.

That will get you only a month on the EPA controlled National parks. Moreton. Fraser.

My dictionary defines green as ‘unripe, immature, undeveloped'. Perfect description.

Most political parties are seen as interested in what the voters think, the Greens are seen as thinking the community should be interested in what they think.

Ouch. I thought the ranger would have let a first-time offender off with a warning. (Not that I condone driving without a permit - I always make sure I have a valid one.)

On the subject of permits I paid for permits on the net for access to Bribie island beach. All is well except once they have your money / credit card I have found out they dont post out your windscreen sticker. Only a receipt is posted and you have to go a pick up the sticker in the city or present your receipt at Caravan park at bribie. What is the use of paying over the net. \
    Has anyone experienced this?

Aigutso - we got nabbed on main beach, just back from the pin.

Not only did we get a fine - we got a lecture as well !! (You can imagine how well that went down...).

The purpose of the thread was to ensure no other Ausfishers get caught - let's hope this has helped in some way.
