    Land Based Green Zones???

I have just been over to Moreton Island the past week, thought I might drive around Comby point to Yellow Patch, I was greeted by a NO ENTRY sign, beach safe area or something to that effect. So I drove inland to Yellow Patch and onto Nort Point, about 1 kilometer away from my Nort point I was greeted with another NO ENTRY sign, this is for vehicles, so if yo want to fish North Point, you have to park your car up, grab all your gear and walk the sand upto North Point.
I just don't get it, this suppossed to protect the beach?
I used to be a regular visitor to North Point and as any other regular visitor would know, the terrain constantly changes, with lagoons some years and other years there are none.
How does stopping vehicle access to North Point protect the sand?

I think it boils down to the fact that the more people that are discouraged from going anywhere makes it easier to manage national parks if no-one uses them. This should be in the mission statement of the EPA.

    Brew Guru,

It is just the EPA thinking that they are protecting kids in the camping spots, when speeding signs could be an alternative or even restrictions could be put in place over the school holidays. I suspect that the EPA guys live at Cowan and that is why their beach has been closed for years.

As they have oversighted the loss of a barge service to Bulwer and the closing of the service station, they should be aware that the camp sites will not be occupied as often - but maybe this was the grand plan to lock up the Island except for Tangalooma?

If you fished near the creek or pumped yabbies, it would have been your last time as this is part of the Green Zone as from 1 March.

Basically it is to stop fishing from the rocks. How many people will haul their gear a km across soft sand to reach the spot then lug it all back again

In my personal opinion your are close in mentioning the name of Tangalooma here as I reckon they are in this up to their eyeballs; money talks when saving the environment apparently.

    Chris Ryan,

We think alike. I was told 10-15 years ago when I was looking at a Unit in Tangalooma that the Government of the day had banned any future development on the site. This was before they developed the hill behind the resort.

    So in summary:
    "anything, anywhere, anytime"

    (Except North Point)

Off the subject, what a beautiful boat. Did I read somewhere that "Waiben" is making a "return" trip to Thursday Island? If so, what a fantastic trip for you and the old girl.

Looking at Moreton Island from over here at Redcliffe, there are two huge scars on the island around the area just south of the Tangalooma wrecks.
Don't know what has happened but I'm really surprised the EPA allowed it.
    So much for eco tourism.

Have alook at the EPA green zone map.

No beach fishing from the Blue lagoon track to where the rocks start at Cape Moreton.

One of the reasons why the mates fishing trip this year is to Straddie.

After 12 years going to Moreton.

My dictionary defines green as ‘unripe, immature, undeveloped'. Perfect description.

Most political parties are seen as interested in what the voters think, the Greens are seen as thinking the community should be interested in what they think.
