Thread: cheaper imported camping generators

    Re: cheaper imported camping generators

I have a kipor which is a direct copy of the Honda 10. It's been excellent. Hasn't done a lot of work yet but it runs my Engel 60L fridge, a couple of halogen spotties and will run a 25amp battery recharger. I think the 3.5amp charger will be underdone for that battery.

The sweet taste of a "cheap bargain" turns sour when every time you want to use it, it won't start easily, is noisy, uses a lot of fuel, engine revs fluctuate even under constant load........

I ended up spending more on a good unit, but it felt so good when you wanted to start it.....it did!!!!!!! A guy next to us had a "no name" unit and he spent forever to get it to go and when it did finally start, it was loud as, not what you would want to have around you at dusk on a nice night etc.

Spend the bucks once and enjoy the investment forever.......................
    Cheers Garry

    Thanks fellas,

Yes, I made a promise to myself a few years back to buy quality the first time....it stings in the pocket at first.....but years down the track you look back and never regret it.....fools pay twice.

I will save the pennies for a better unit. Honda, Yammie or Kipor....maybe even that Engel one for under $1000 looks OK.

Thanks for all the advice....keep posting too....if there are good deals and/or advice found....everyone can share and benefit. I have learnt heaps just by reading this thread...so thanks everyone.

A 1000i will be heaps for your camping requirements - they are underrated.

Finga, the trade tools "power chief" has earth points and rcd. Much the same as a dunlite type setup.
