Hi Steve.
Very interesting. I didn't know that Merc props would fit the V6 Evinrude Geracase. However my propshaft is 15 spline and 1 inch diameter. Do you know if there are any 13" to 14" diameter props to fit this as Evinrude certainly don't have any.

Glen
Yes, it all comes down to which Boss kit you use, and I know they have one for yours as that is what they gave me first. Sorry I cant recall the part no* thou.
Thanks Steve
I'll chase up a merc dealer
Regards, Glen
The part numbers are : Enertia prop 48.898998A46, boss kit 835266Q1,
holeshot and acceleration is fantastic.
Good luck
Thanks Steve
Is that the boss kit for the 15 spline?
What is your boat? what size and weight?
Regards, Glen
Glen, my boat is a Kingfisher Caprice 5.2m glass cuddycab, my gearbox has a thicker shaft takes a 27mm nut. I believe that part no for the boss is correct.
I have just got home from trialing the prop again, raised the motor up another hole, top speed off GPS was 45mph / 72kph @ 5400, was a little lumpy thou in the top of Westernport. Mid range 4000 = 30mph 4500 = 35mph approx.
Thanks Steve
I'll definetly be seeing the local Merc dealer

I recently also brought a 4.9 Webster but my boat is fitted with a Mercury Optimax 90 extra long shaft.
I am not having the issues you are experiencing with propeller selection as there are many and varied options that are available for my setup however I am experiencing problems with ventilation and the ability to get her nose up. As soon as I get the motor anywhere past neutral trim the prop just loses bite.
The original motor came with a Vengeance 18 pitch prop which was useless. I talked to Steve at Solas and tried various combinations that included 4 blades and a range of 3 blade props. The best compromise reached and it is a compromise was a 3 blade high rake prop with extra tight cupping, however I still cannot get her nose up and she rides flat and heavy as I have to keep the motor at neutral or less trim to stop it from ventilating. I have lifting and dropped the motor height on the transom several times with the various combinations of propellers. I have shifted weight aft as much as possible and still have the same problems
Are you experiencing any of these issues or can anyone out here suggest a remedy that may assist.
Thanks

Just got home from my first run in my new second hand 4.9 Webster runabout/ 90 Etec. I year old, private buy from very nice man in Sydney who has had to sell it due to finanancial circumstances .
Original sale and fit up by Anglers Marine in Unanderra, NSW and my initial reaction is that they have done a good job .
The motor is mounted as low as it can go on the transom. It is spinning a 15X15 S/S prop but I cannot see any model number or brand, can only assume it is Evinrude of some description.
For the test run, the boat was bare bar 50 litres fuel, me and the wife 210kgs (I make up 145 of that ) and the very substantial bimini and rocket launcher, I estimate another 30 kg.
Conditions for first run quite good with a S/Easter of around 12 knots. I got the following results.
2800rpm, on the plane at 11 knots.
4000rpm, 22 knots
4500rpm, 25 knots
5000rpm, 28 knots
WOT was reached at 5400rpm and top speed of 31 knots.
Running into the sea at just over 1/2 trim and with the sea at around 2/3rds trim. Did not seem to make any real diff to the speed or revs.
The etec is as sweet as a nut, quiet and very clean. Instant start from cold with no throttle. Once in full fighting trim I expect to perhaps lose a knot or so across the rev range but the motor feels so strong I would not be surprised if I don't. Accelaration is breath taking. Overall I could not be happier .
Glen, If you want I am happy to call the dealer and try to find out what the prop is, or you can call them your self 02 4271 1422.
Hope this has been of some help.

I think that flat ride is the nature of the boat. Mine feels the same, with the same trim situation. What prop size have you settled on and what performance do you get?
Catweb
My 15 x 15 prop part number is visible on the hub 7.63962. My engine was mounted 30mm off the transom top and I got 27 knots at WOT 5000rpm, similar load.
I have just raised the engine by 20mm but havn't tried it yet ( it appeared to be buried when on the plane). Maybe I need to go the other way to get your performance!!!
Regards, Glen
Glen, I had another look at the hub with my glasses on, amazing how much better I can see!! Can confirm model number same as yours. So GMF why you can't pull same or better revs if motor mounted higher!
At least it gives you anotherr option I s'pose. Good luck when next you test with the even higher mount. Look forawrd to haering how you got on.
I have spent the day swapping my Lowrance toys from the old boat with the nasty Navman stuff that came with the new one.
