Thread: Propeller for E-tec 90 long shaft

Unhappy Propeller for E-tec 90 long shaft

I recently bought a new Websters Twinfisher 4.9 metre with a 90hp E-tec. This boat requires the long shaft version. The long shaft is created by putting the evinrude V6 gearcase onto the 3 cylinder 90hp engine. The problem is evinrude only make propellers to suit V6 engines (150hp+) for this gearcase. These are 14.75 inch diameter or larger which is too large for the 90hp engine. I have to use a 15 inch pitch to enable the engine to swing it, but this does not give me enough top end speed - 50kmh at WOT. Most engines of this power use a 13 inch diameter prop with a 17, 19 or 21 inch pitch, as does the E-tec 90hp in the standard shaft version, but these props will not fit the V6 gearcase. Does anyone know of a suitable SS prop for this engine. Solas can't help either.

Please help. I feel like I'm stuck in second gear.

a couple of options.. either buy a turning point or Vengeance prop of your desired pitch and diameter then simply buy the appropriate removeable hub kit to suit the gearbox.

    G'day

I can only really suggest either turning point propellers, as they have interchangeable hubs, or maybe some of the quicksilver props, that's if you can sort out the hub bit...

What WOT figures (rpm) are you reaching?

    G'day

Try either turning point propellors or maybe see if any of the quicksilver branded props could fit if a hub could maybe be interchanged?

What rpm are you achieving at WOT?

    Hi Gary

That link is good. I tried it with my twin 115s and it gave a range either side of my props ie 21 for speed and 19 for load etc so I guess i'll keep the 20s I have.

    Cheers

Put a member "criby1" on the job....he has a prop for an etech off a 150...Brand new that has never seen the water. No idea what size but at a guesse its a 14 &3/4 Viper x 17 rtr good luck with your search.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check them out, but I must say that I'm a bit disappointed that Evinrude couldn't offer something suitable.
With the 15 x 15 I get to the right revs, that is 5000, but not going fast enough.
    I tried a 14.75 x 16 which gave same speed at 4600 WOT.

Re: Propeller for E-tec 90 long shaft

    kong,

to be honest I can never see your V6 gearbox acheiving your desired result.. the ratio is just way too big for the 90 to swing anything over 15 pitch.

Can't get my head around why you needed a V6 box?? are you runing a 30 inch shaft on the 90??

I know a guy who would just lengthen the standard 90 driveshaft for you !

Re: Propeller for E-tec 90 long shaft

    Hi Guys
I think I need a 13 x 19 or similar. Yamaha did a test with their 80hp 4 stroke on the same boat and used a 13 x 17. Very similar gear ratio. The 80 hp topped out at 53.5 kmh. Reckon I should be getting better than that.

Garry, The V6 gearcase is the only way that evinrude supply the 25 inch shaft model. Why they do that on a 3 cylinder engine without a suitable range of props is beyond me. I have sent emails 4 weeks ago and left messages asking why. They have not responded. I bought a new outboard in good faith never expecting to find that they can't supply the right prop.

    Regards

    Glen

yeah i agree, you should have a 13 something x 17 x 18 x 19 x 20 fitted, your boat would be a total dog if your swinging a 14+ x 15. What is the hub diameter on your leg?...it's hard to comprehend a company doing something so stupid...do they think the long leg engine's only application is as a triple or something like that! One day these engines are going to be very hard to sell secondhand if the long is a true V6 only.

    cheers fnq

post your problem here where the ETEC experts like Huey and Liquidnirvana live

Their advice is really good...Huey is Sydney ETEC dealer, others USA based

Re: Propeller for E-tec 90 long shaft

Glen , I did some research.. your 90 is swinging a V4 box of 2.00:1 the V6 box is 1.85:1 but the prop shaft takes V6 props.

You are still going to have to look at going the way I originally stated.

    Thanks all
Talking to e-tec owners group and it looks like turning point propellers may have something. I appreciate your help
