    Glaze for Rods

G'day fellas, please excuse me if this has been already discussed on this site, I havent visited before.

Every now and then I have to refurbish a rod for one reason or another. After binding, I coat it with a 2 pack glaze.

The one I use is Aristocrat Liquid Glass. Final finish is great but it takes an age to set-up.

Is there any other product I should be using ? A hardner I can add ? I have thought of making a machine to tumble the rod but it would only be required 4 - 5 times a year.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

    Regards Gordon

For a dryer, go to BBQs Galore or similar & pick up a rotisserie for around $20 it's easy to make a fitting to hold rods for drying, i have some pics somewhere if your interested, plus most tackle shops carry a 2 pac rod epoxy that should dry overnight..

Thanks for that, I understand the principle. This glaze sets up in about 30 min so I guess the best thing is to tumble it until it stops running.

    Thanks again

The problem with Aristocrat liquid glass is that it isn't all that UV resistant and it is a bit soft.
Remember too that its viscosity is very much affected by tempriture and humidity...as detailed in the instructions.

Aristocrat make a specific product for fishing rods... super rod coat from memory.

you can get this from the same people who import all the aristocrat products.

Photogloss.....they are up near gympie... goomborian I think. They mail order no problems.

details not to hand at this point.

there are probaly other products too... finga will know.

    cheers

In that case I supose mirror ball motors would be OK... they generaly come between 3 and 6 RPM.

The good thing about mirrorball motors is that the come ready to run.

    cheers
