Well done Smithy. Good work with the added pressure of getting it in the can!
Met Scotty Hillier (Scooter), Sluggo the cameraman and Steve Doyle the big boss of BCF at the ramp at 0500. It was a calm run at 5,000rpm to the bait grounds where we made bait easy. Pilly schools were flicking on top everywhere.
We shot off back to the mackerel spot taking one hit that didn't connect. We watched a pro pull two spanish but it was very quiet so we headed out to where a few sailfish were caught last week. As soon as we were in the zone birds were everywhere. Skipjack tuna were in plague proportion and we had a story in 15mins catching those little fellas. We put bigger lures on to get away from them and to go for a sailfish, marlin or wahoo. As we were close to a wreck we had a quick jig in case some kingies or ajs were on it. No good so we decided to troll to another good aj spot as Steve had bought a Stella along to do just that.
A few minutes into the troll I marked a good return at 21m on the 585 Furuno and pointed it out to the boys. Sure enought, got him on! A nice black around 25-30kg on the evil coloured lure at shotgun. It did all the tricks and the footage should be great. Big Scotty was pumped as he hadn't got one in the boat for a long time, usually losing them right at the boat. After the release he was shaking even. The boys well and truly had a segment filled in and had been on a run of fishing stories not working out. Back in the Brownies Coastwatch days 9 out of 10 trips they would get enough stuff. These days it is more like 6 out of 10. Maybe a sign of the times.
We ran to the aj spot and had a few drops with Steve getting dusted up on a good fish. We were home by 1300 with a story in the can. Awesome!
Steve and Scotty.
Big Scotty.
Scooter and Sluggo.

Nice work Smithy. Its always a great feeling when you have that pressure on your shoulders to produce the goods for the boys and end up doing so!
Cheers,
Benny.
awesome day
about time they got some bloody good charter operators on that show lol
Gday smithy nice to chat yesterday when is the program going to air? I can imagine Scotty when he hooked up and landed the Marlin. He gets very excited at the smallest things in fishing as do I. But with a Marlin I would expect cartwheels or something simillar. Shouldn't be to long before the bottom dwellers come back on the chew again. CHEERS BRENDAN
sounds like someone will be busy once the episode airs.
Do you know when it will air?
neil
