    portable fish finder

    hey guys

ive seen on ebay some fish finders for like $50 that are portable, the transducer is on like a float that you can hang out the back.

my opinin would be natuarly cheap and nasty, but thinking of putting one on the yak and testing around the canals and what not

    anyone used them before ????

    Re: portable fish finder

I would be very suspect of any $50 sounder.

Just about any sounder can be set up portable.
In fact some of the manufactueres do cable kits and transducers specificaly for this.

garmin have a battery box set up listed as an accessory for my sounder.

You can pic up a respectable brand mono sounder for arround $150 any day.

add a gell cell and you are away.

You then have a respectable sounder and a waranty you can hang your hat on.

Humminbird do a portable Kit that includes a suction cup transducer for about $250... takes AA batteres..

If it is a sit in yak, they realy lend them selves to thru hull transducers....gives you a clean bottom.
with the sit on's you can get a bolt thru and glue it in one of the drain holes with sicaflex.

    cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.
