    Re: Fishing tackle levy

I wasnt aware of that M62....can you point me to a link??
Scott i looked for a link in NGIQ's web site but couldnt find much there as it only goes back to July 06, but i also know for certain that the NGIQ was very pro active for the wholesalers and retailers re water restrictions. It was during Don Scotts time as pres and he achieved great results and did manage to save some SEQ nurseries. This however was done by the association which is funded by ass fees not the pot levy as such.

I may be off track with the fishing tackle levy by the sounds of it due too the cost of running it etc. So how do you get average families that only fish once in a while to get involved. Members of sites like this are easy to get involved but it would help to have more numbers. i guess that is part of the challenge ahead.

    Scott,

It is tough, but nowhere near impossible. We are in "early days" mode, but we have some good heads, and lots of support to grow. Check out the SOBA website, and pass the details around. People need to start looking, and getting involved, even in a small way.

    Cheers,

    Re: Fishing tackle levy

The biggest problem with a levy is that it would have to be government administerd.

    Two problems with that
The costs of administration would be huge

and the government would then controll where the money goes.

    see my problem

It would be just another tax

add to that the costs of whatever business ends up collecting or paying the tax would end up with an additional administrative cost.

NO levy on tackle... bad idea.

A levy on bait bags...... now your talking...... even better put a deposit of $5 on them.... you get the $5 back if you bring the whole bag back.... if it isnt complete you only get $3.

The levy and the defaulted deposit could be used to fund a work for the dole project picking up waterside litter.

    cheers

Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.
