    Alvey Drag Diagram Needed

Hopefully someone out there will be able to help...

Just got my hands on an Alvey 925A Snapper Reel, had a play with it and the drag system needs a little TLC, pulled the back plate off and there is a wire spring (of sorts) that is loose inside. I would like to put it back together. If anyone has a diagram of a digital photo of the drag system for an Alvey, I'd be much appreciated. Would like to have the drag working on this reel.

    Hoping someone can help

    Hey mate

this is an A model, it has no drag. what you are looking at is the fish alert ratchet. Im not certain, but the vast majority of metal backed alveys have the same ratchet mechanism, go to the alvey site (alvey.com) and go to spare parts. download the sheet for the alvey 600A5, that should have the diagram you are looking for.

    cheers

Thanks Owen, yeah after having a really good look at it, I realised I was barking up the wrong tree. Have fitted the wire spring arm back in, but I will have a look to make sure I haven't done the square peg into round hole trick.

    Thanks again.

Thanks Finga, had a play last night and worked it out. Now sitting sweet on a 15kg rod and ready for a tester tomorrow out wide of Townsville.

The first person I have heard confess to using a snapper winch in QLD......." you must be a southerner"

    cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.

Nope, not a Southerner, born and bred in QLD and lived most of my life in FNQ.

Saw a bloke about 4 months ago using one and thought it was an interesting way of get the fish quickly out of the reef and into the boat, and you know what, I was right.

    Wednesday's keeper effort:
    1 Nannygai - off a wreck
    1 Cobia 10.5kg - off a wreck
2 Coral Trout - out of the reef

Proof's in the fish and tell you what, its intense trying to drag a Cobia out of 40m of water on a reel with absolutely NO drag system. Bloody awesome.
