New Egrell B10

Yep, a B10. Eric has taken the S10 blank and built a pretty awesome baitcaster. I'm not sure if it's going into full production, or if it's a limited run. I spotted one at Fish Head on Saturday. It has a split grip and is 7' long. The two I saw had serial numbers E0001 and E0002. Number 1 belongs to Dunc and number 2 now has a sold sign on it. I left it there so others can see it, as I won't get a chance to use it until I head to Darwin at Easter. I'll be matching it up with a Blue Backer 300 with 30lb Bionic for salty stuff and a Pluton 200 for Barra and New Guinea. This rod seems to have all the grunt of the B8, but with the lighter tip of the S10. I think this might be the new standard in a heavy soft plastic bait caster. The blue reel seat really sets it off too.

B10 has been around now for a little while - August/September of last year.

Any store that stocks Egrell has access to them. Was toying with buying one at Xmas. Might be worth a second look!!!!

Not to mention the blue eyelets on the E0001, and autographed - lucky Duncan. I just got a "Bear essential" (B0003) it's the S10's big brother with a split grip also.

Hi AussieBasser...As JustQ mentioned the rod has been around for a while it's just that those two rodz that you mentioned are the very first with the split grip and the new Alps guides. I use one of these rodz with a Bluebacker 300, fishing big plastics offshore as there are some things you can do with an overhead that you can't with spin gear. Look forward to reading your report at Easter.

Eric, can you enlighten me a bit on the "as there are some things you can do", I checked them out at Fish Head yesterday while looking for a Poppa BeaR Duncan thought he had in stock, the 'BeaR Essential' is very nice indeed.
Also is there much difference between the 'Poppa' and the 'Essential'.

Hmmm didnt even take notice that Eric&Deb made a B10, I have a S4 and as soon as they replace my S10, I have one of those as well Waiting on my insurance claim and might grab one ....

Hi GPB...I fish with spin gear for the most part, but every now and again I like to do something a little different. With a small baitcaster like the bluebacker 300, this reel still holds 350mtrs of 40lb jigging braid which is 50mtrs more than my certate 4000. When fishing shallow, 40mtrs or less, this distance is still an easy cast for a B/C. Because the reel is sitting above the rod, it sort of restricts my movement a little, which means I have to be a little more precise with my rod action, making me more aware of the action I am imparting on the plastic with the rod. The other thing with a B/C reel is that when I am fishing, I am also touching the line as it comes back onto the reel, which means that everything that is happening down there is transmitting back through the line, I can feel the smallest of bumps. This makes it good if you are fishing hard on the bottom as you can feel exactly what you are dragging your plastic through. Another benefit I get personally from using a B/C is just the fact that I can free spool a plastic to the bottom and if I get hit on the way down I just have to turn the handle and I am in gear. Also the retrieval of a B/C is a lot smoother and more controlled.
As I mentioned earlier I still use my certates and my saltiga for most of my fishing. I just get a real buzz out of using a baitcaster offshore with big plastics. Techniques are very hard to write about but these are just some of the benefits I get from a baitcaster. I have been using a B10 since the very first S10 was dezigned, and I have caught many good fish on both rodz.

Hey Roydsy, I think the S4 is the most versatile rod I own. I can use it for throwing spinnerbaits and slugs to Bass and I've caught a 114cm Awoonga Barra on it. My B4s get used more for Barra than Bass now too.
