    New Medium Spinning Combo

    Hi guys,

I am after a new medium spinning combo. Nothing over extravagant just a good combo and a decent price.

I was thinking of one of teh following

Advantage - TD DA 701MFS ; 7' Spin ; 8-14lb with a daiwa Advantage spinning reel (what size do you guys recommend for this rod)

    or a

    Maxspin 1pc Spin 2.18m 12-28g 4-7kg
what size reel would you guys recommend from either a Sol/advantage or stradic.

    thanks for all suggestions.

I've been looking for a med setup for a long time and am still only half way there. First of all your budget, how much are you willing to pay for the setup? I think if you go Stradic or above in terms of Shimano and Sol or above in terms of Daiwa you will be on your way to having a really nice outfit. Rods wise i'd probly go either one of the Starlo Stix Tournie Pro's or a Nitro(i've got the Mag Butt Distance Spin, 4-6kg and find it really nice even though i'm yet to use it), again depending on budget but that's JMO. Another thing, what are ya chasing specifically or what lures are you most likely going to use?

    Re: New Medium Spinning Combo

    Ismail82,

I have a few spin combos which I will fill you in on.

    1. Egell S10 with Daiwa Sol 4000. The pride of my fleet but took me a long time to save for this. I use 30 lb suffix braid and 20 lb FC Rock leader. Mostly use it for soft plastics in deeper water but also couples as a nice spin outfit.

    2. Starlo Tourament Mid spin coupled with Stradic 4000. Reels outdoes the rod here IMO. This is a more reasonably priced outfit, cost about $400 all up. Have loaded it with 8 pound fins braid.

    3. Starlo stix 2-5kg coupled with penn affinity 3000. Bought this before the starlo tournament outfit. $200 bucks all up. Nice set up although the rod doesn't quite lock up. 6 lb braid on the reel.

Being a tackle junky my next planned rod is the niro mag butt distance spin 4-6kg ( as per WODF above) and I plan to put my stradic 4000 on it. The rod costs $300 but will suit the stradic 4000 perfectly as the stradic has a gear ration of 5.8:1, idela for spinning, especially for fast buggers like tuna and macs that like to chase fast baits.

In summary it depends on both your budget and what you are targeting but my one suggestion is get a reel with a high gear ratio and a rod that will lock up when you put the pressure on the fish. Don't have to spend millions to get either.

    Re: New Medium Spinning Combo

    Hi,

Ive a got a Bear S10 matched with a sol 4000. I was after something a bit lighter than this combo and a bit cheaper.

This rod will be used for SPs for Snapper, larger flatties, jewies etc as well as double up for throwing slugs as smaller tuna and tailor.

Ill check out the nitro mag butt rod but i feel this may be a bit pricey for a second combo rod.

    Re: New Medium Spinning Combo

My Maxspin Stradic 4000 setup sees a lot of use rangeing from Mac/Tuna spinning to plastic work. It has quality cork and Fuji SIC's so you should not see the corrosion a lot of more expensive rods are being troubled with.
The nitros are a quality offering as well but IMHO don't match the bang for buck of the Tournament pro range.
I use 12lb Microfuse and it seems about right for my use

Went out today and bought a Starlo Tournament Pro Max Spin Rod. Also ordered a Tierra 3000 from the states of Ebay. Even though the dollar value has dropped I couldnt resist buying the reel overseas as it still worked out a lot cheaper.
