    Electric Decals

    G'day everyone,

Last night I received an email from Bill Stevens, owner of Swampland Tackle in the US. He and another bloke, Bobby FEAZEL have been trying to develop better quality decals for rodbuilders to use with Inkjet printers. This months Rodcrafter Magazine has a full article explaining in detail how to set up the printer and about using the new decal paper. The results I have seen are absolutely astounding. The electric decals have to be seen to be believed. If you are interested in learning more please have a look at the attached link.

    Re: Electric Decals

    Finga,

Mate, I haven't ordered from Swampland Tackle before so I can't really comment. Bill Stevens is very well known in the rod building circles in the US and I would have no doubt, the service would be excellent. Bill requested that I put the link to his site on the forum. The new Electric Decals are stunning (from photos) and I think the article in Rodmaker Magazine is very relevant to to those of us who will, no doubt, want to try making our own. If any of us can turn out decals to the standard of those shown, I think it would great. All I need is a decent printer with the right functions!

Mark, I haven't read the article but, all other ink jet decals I have made in the past don't stand up to the UV levels here and fade, it would be interesting to see if these stand up.

What sort of time frame could be expected from inkjet stuff left in the sun matey??

    Re: Electric Decals

Myles and Finga, I'll chase up Bill Stevens and have a chat with him about the inkjet labels fading and see what he has to say about this new material they are using. I'll get back to you both as soon as I know.

Thanks Sandy for the offer but at this stage I'd prefer to find out as much as possible about the lable sheets before we commit to anything. I'd hate to convince everyone to try them and then find there are major problems with them fading.

    Stay tuned

    Re: Electric Decals

    Finga,
Certain colours are better than others. To get a good idea of how fast, print a colour picture on a inkjet and leave it out in the sun. You will see the fade within the first few hours. I did a test with a well known builder from the States which compared finishes and threads. He made 2 of each one for use in the states and one here. Our UV here is definately more damaging from the results I got.
