mate my saltiga z 4500 (same reel) used 300mt of SAltiga 50lb Hyper sensor braid witch is a pe3 (quite thin) and i need a small amount of backing (a few wraps of the reel up and back) so if its a pe4 i would say only a tiny bit to prevent slippage on the spool...and i hope the reel spooling machine is putting it on for you hell of a lot easier and its done properly

if you cant fit backing onto the reel try a couple of wraps of electrical tape to give it something to bind to, most times you will never have a problem with slippage until you get a lot of line off the reel. cheers lethal

cotton wool is also good...or the line is put on loose.

    Re: BACKING LINE SALTIGA S-extreme

Thanks for the info guys i believe 50lb is pe5 not that it matters ,i might go with the tape method because i want to get the whole 300mt on . I had some 30lb left over when i spooled the capricorn 4000 up and the same with the 20lb on the 3000tierra .. I cant wait to take it out for a fish on my next charter at the end of the month it will hopefully do the job for years to come ,any other suggestions will be much appreciated and yes i do have a device for spooling it up with it packs down tight every time ......matt

    Re: BACKING LINE SALTIGA S-extreme

pe relates to the thickness of the line...general rule of thumb your correct 2 is 20, 3 is 30, 4 is 40....the stuff for jigging is generally thinner and a lot more expensive...200 dollars a spool for hyper sensor 50 lb

Your absolutely right reece pe5 in the sensor is 75lb ,i was given the acudepth in 50lb pe5 as part of the deal with the reel and have been useing the same line on my other gear happily but thanks for clearing that up as i didn't realize that point thanks again for your help ...matt

    Re: BACKING LINE SALTIGA S-extreme

Had a full 300m of 50# Accudepth on my Blast 4500 (spools pretty similar?) when I first loaded it up about 3-4 years ago, so yours should go close to fitting if you use only a few turns of backing and pack the line firmly.
I wore out the first 50m of the Accudepth with too much popping in tough country and topshotted with 50# Bionic. Still jigs great but I miss the extra casting distance I got with the Accudepth, which stays beautifully round and thin enough to rip through the guides.

    Hi Bluefin,

I just got a 4500 sexdream with 60lb pe4 Saltiga sensor. I havent spooled it up yet but I'll let you know if it all fits. The spool says it will. I think I will back it with a couple of wraps of flouro.

Which rod did you couple it with??? I got a new Egrell "Bear Essential", I'ts like an S10 on roids.

    Re: BACKING LINE SALTIGA S-extreme

Tetsuo ended up with all the spool of line going on and i used plumbers teflon tape as backing the spool of jigging braid fitted perfectly the line is smooth as silk and should fall of the reel beautifully the line i got from daiwa is about to be released here in aus from what i understand . I have it matched up to my wilson blades and tales x heavy for now and a mate of mine is going to build me a new rod when we find the blank i want the saltiga rod to suit the reel is about $600 so nevermind i will have one built I may also go down the path of the bear essentials i will investigate further ,i am just happy to have this weapon in my hands now ...matt
