Just thought i would let you kno how i went fishin at Somerset dam on friday for anyone interested. Was on the water by 0630 went straight up from the spit boat ramp to Bay 13. Found the fish schooled up in about 10m of water.
Casted little max blade lures and was slow hoppin through the school where ever the fish were sittin in the water colum after about an hour of casting workin out the teqhnique my dad got a nice 50cm yellowbelly hoppin the lure of the bottom. My first cast afterwards saw myself land a 35cm bass and my next cast out got me a 39cm bass. To finish it off my dad got a 38cm bass 30mins later.
Fish were all caught within the hour, after that they seem to of went into shutdown mode. Great day though. Hope the info helps someone else out.
I hit Somerset also over the weekend. We picked up a couple of Bass trolling in 10m of water across from bay 13. Also picked up some redclaw. Problem was the share farmers were out and picked up a couple of my nets. Their day will come.
Hi Raydog,
Well done mate. Can I suggest you try slow rolling your blade baits through the schools at Somerset when you find them. I have found this to be much more successful than hopping. I'ts worth a try anyway.
Another tip that may help is if they shut down on the blades try slow rolling a plastic through them. It has worked for me and I was out there yesterday with a mixed bag (size wise) ranging from 20 cm to 50 cm.
Give it a try next time when you are at Somerset.
