    Rigging up knife jigs

    G'day guys and gals

Purchased some pre rigged knife jigs the other day and just wanted to make sure that the hook is hanging down far enough. I would have thought that the hook would be better off around half way somewhere? I've attached a photo to help out my shonky description a bit hehe.

Also has anyone fished these at 1770 for any luck?

    Cheers

    Re: Rigging up knife jigs

hey paul, it is best to attach a stainless ring to the top of the jig and attach your main line and the hook to this, i have been down the path where the ring on the top of the jig breaks and you loose the fish and the jig, i will happily sacrifice the jig for a nice fish. best way to use em is find the fish then drop the jig and work it back up, it is not easy work but it can be rewarding, be prepared to work for it though. cheers lee

I thought the same thing when i brought this up on another forum a while back. I was told the fish are more likely to hit on the drop and attack the head rather than the middle section so shorter just might be better. Also if they miss they are more than likely to come back and have another go. Just have some quality split and solid rings attached in the right place, work em hard n fast and your in with a chance. Hope this helps

    Sharkie,

you can get the "assist hooks" in two lengths, what I do is run 2 hooks, one short one and one long one, also agree with lethal098, get some split rings on them.

Hope you been going to the gym, you get a good work our jigging.

Thanks alot for your replies guys, really helpfull!

With the rings, do they have a pound rating? If so what poundage would be a good starting point?

Where is a good place to buy the "assist hooks" from? and what are some worth trying?

    Cheers Guys

Owner split rings sz 8 or 9 rated to 120 n 170lb would be a good starting point IMO, also depends on size and weight of the jigs you're using. Chek out MO for assist hooks, they are great to deal with and have great prices. Might also be worth trying to make some of your own aswell?
