    Threadfin Salmon in Hervey Bay

Does anyone have any suggestions for locations and techniques for Threadies in HB.

On two occasions now I have actually seen them launching onto he bank chasing jelly prawns but can't seem to hook one. I'm fishing the bottom of the tide and using both HBs and SPs.

    Any suggestions

Any preference with plastics. I have been using prawn replicas like the Atomic Prongs.

Yeah I heard that. So doe that mean it's allover once the netters have arrived?

The whole concept that someone can just roll up and net the hell out the place sh@ts me to tears. When will someone, i.e. the regulators realise that the recreational value of these fish far outweighs the commercial value? Personally I have probably spent several hundred bucks in the local economy to have a crack at these fish and now they just get scooped up and sold at some ridiculous price per kilo to complete with imports form vietnam and uganda. I just don't get it!!!

    Hi BP,

Chief is the local expert on threadies in the Brisbane River, so reading some of his reports might help.

Have a look in Estuary reports. You might be able to run a search for them.

If that's no good, why not send him a PM?

2-3" gulp shrimp on about 1/22 jigheads. Sounds silly but has been the downfall of hundreds of brisbane threadies in shallow water

Thanks for the reminder about the netters chewy.

Will they be active in both the River heads and burrum areas, or just river heads? How long are the nets left out for, hours or days at a time? Do they have to be attended? Will the locations like honeycombs, wals camp, be effected as much as the susan and mary?

Sorry for all the questions, Ive never had to deal with netters before. I'll go hard before sunday then.

No andrewm the burrum neters dont net very far from the mouth. there is one from buundy that puts in at buxton and does buxton and the isis but that about it.The mary on the other hand gets its fair share.Normally you will see the mother boat with a couple tinnies behind. Thiink they set trhree short nets each,in line of sight, marked with a few 20 ltr plastic drums, the majority of the net is normally under the water including corks. Try to avoid em as they make a real mess round ur prop

A mate of mine has a farm that backs on to the Gregory river. He has removed and destroyed many nets from the top end of this system. Not pro's nets dodgy pricks that rape the place.
As for the Threadies, try a Jackal Mask Vib in the deep holes, that's what a lot of guys use in Brisy.

That ia a big problem up here marty, the fisheries are aware of a lot of them, just catching them is the problem.its a little different to 20 years ago, when they would run 10 metres for a few mullet for tea now they leave them in,and the crabs they catch is unbelievable. We have burnt a few nets up the isis years ago, covered in slime, but still catching.A cup of woof wood sorts them oout quick.i guess its like everything the minority ruins it 4 the rest
