plastics for pelagics

how do you go about using plastics when casting at a school of busting fish, does the jig weight matter so much as when fishing the bottom and do you just crank it back like a mad man or still fish them slowly...i got a spotty on a 5" jerk shad in blue pepper neon by just copying what i thought a pro was doing out at mermaid but it wasnt cast at a visible school

i like a little weight when ripping sp's through a school of pelagics, keeps the sp just under the water. i think if you had little weight it would skip along the water cause you would be cranking the reel hard, i also give some big lifts (jerks) this seems to get results also. if you are chasing macks take alot of sp's! usally after 1 fish you need a new one, i have had a fair bit of luck with green sp's also.

Two dogs, If you use a jig head and plastic you don't have to crank it in flat knacker just tweak it in and they will smash it. Better yet if conditions allow use a worm hook and have it weightless and go at a snails pace flicking it in and only using the reel to take up the slack after a tweak. Bloody good fun and better than slugs most times in my opinion. Ben
