Pigeon Holes 24th January
My girl and I went to Pigeon Holes on Saturday. We parked at the first beach and walked along the beach throwing out a pilchard on a paternoster rig on the Daiwa and a Huey Pilchard on the Okuma spin rod. After 30 mins and the bait being constantly taken decided to move onto Half Moon Bay. We initially drove to the top of the hill and Pigeon Hole track. The track runs through a new property with a sign advising, “Trespassers prosecuted” We drove back down to Half Moon Bay and walked along Half Moon Bay beach which takes about 15mins to the rocks. Walking out to the point we baited up using Pilchards and put out a line. As soon as they hit the water we were getting hit and losing bait both from the top and bottom hooks. I swapped the hooks to a Gamakatsu 3/0 Worm Red Hook (wish I had some circular hooks with me). I flicked out a 3” Minnow in Nuclear Chicken but the tide was too low and there was a lot of weed. Fish caught on the day, Arrowhead squid, Whiting and Flathead.
FYI best time to fish Pigeon Holes is High Tide on the turn.
Weather: Very warm. Slight Breeze. Low tide.
Equipment: Okuma 6ft6” 2-4 kg mono. No 2 running sinker. Daiwa 7ft Custom Rod. 3500 Daiwa reel. 10lb mono. No 2 drop sinker on a paternoster rig.
Action: Medium.

Sounds like a great way to spend a day. Can't complain about getting squid, whiting and flathead. Top feed.
