Spent a couple of trips up the coast chasing jacks on lures in the dark. Results have been good with a heap of bycatch and bust offs. First trip was around new years. Fished 3 nights in a row in the early hours before the sun popped for a couple of jacks tarpon and stacks of big eye trevs. The last morning I was there also scored a nice golden. All fish were taken on light spin gear with a 17lb leader. The big jacks smashed me around the jetties and pylons but most fish were decent around the 40cm mark. Biggest went 47. Decided to do a quick trip back there last night with T H I R S T Y to see if he could get his first jack of 09. Weather was great until it got dark and started pissing down. Got sick of waiting for it to stop, so we just braved it and got soaked. The tarpon and trevs weren't as thick this time but the jacks played the game. THIRSTY was first on the board with a good fish at47cm. I was next with a 45 and on the next cast got a 48. Missed a few good hits and got one good dusting before we called it a night round midnight. Only a couple of little big eyes were landed as well as a couple of nice bream in the high 30's. All fish were taken on 6lb fireline and 20lb leader. Best lures were 3 and 4 inch powerbaits and 110mm flickbaits in natural colours on 1/12th to 1/6th ounce heads.
Also picked up a nice fish during the week that measured 50 on the dot. Good to see a few red fish coming aboard after a quiet couple of weeks.
