    Lowrance LCX-27C with a Lowrance X97???

    Hi,

I've got a Lowrance x97 fishfinder only in the boat at the moment and am looking at installing a LCX-27c combo unit.

The question is, do i keep both or get rid of the X97??? is there even a market for 2nd hand fishfinders?

One thought was to keep both so i would have the ability to use one as a sounder and the other as a GPS. It's already in the boat, why not leave it there? I just read in another thread that it can be a pain shrinking and expanding the combo screens also.

The other thought was to get rid of the fishfinder so it wouldn'y clutter the dash and i could re use the transducer hole/mounting point.

and that leads to the next question, if i'm getting rid of the X97, should i go for a differenet brand altogether, something like a Raymarine A60?

too many options, that's why it's taken me so long to buy one!

Thanks in advance, hopefully i can make up my mind and pick one up this weekend while in Sydney.

    fishmtb,

Yes there is a market for second hand units, might not get too much for it but..

When installing a new unit it is sometimes comforting for a short period of time to have 2 units side by side, specially one you trust for a little while.

The lowrance units have several screen setups so you can quickly change between full screen gps, to full screen sounder or split screen by default down the middle.

You can also overlay data, so you change to your full screen map and then add overlay data of the sonar, depth.

If you go to lowrances website you can download a product emulator, which will allow you to play with all the functions of the sounder, a good way to see if you like it or not and a good training mechanism.

    Regards

G,day mate,I recently went through a similar problem,I ended up with the Raymarine A60 because of previous bad experiences with lowrance units.
I think the lowrance gives a better view for the gps but the raymarine offered the better sounder with digital filtering.I am very happy with the raymarine unit.

Yeah I considered the A60 also, seemed to have a good rep but wasn't keen on the 5"7' screen vs the 7" of the LCX 27c.

How do you find the A60?

Gday mate,as a sounder I love the A60 it is a fantastic unit,The GPS screen isnt as easy to look at as the lowrance unit I had,the lowrance seemed to be smoother. The A60 isnt a bad plotter though.I also considered the A65 for the bigger screen and higher resolution but coundn't justify the extra cost at the time.
If you do go the A60 give me a call I have a spare navionics gold cf card for sale

I have just recently bought an LCX -27c and fitted it to my tinnie. So far i cannot fault the menus and on screen functions. Loving the 7 inch screen!!!! The GPs is really simple to use, got me home time and time again in the dark over the recent long weekend.
I have used the Lowrance site for the Emulator and it also seemed to work.
