mate, we find the best time is around lunchtime for some reason but have caught them at all times of day. the 4 beacons are the southernmost beacons and they go all the way up near the tip of moreton, thats what u are talkin about i think

If you are spinning for mackerel in the bay I always find that the chrome slugs need the sun on the water for them to work.

Hi Simon, the best i have found is morning up to midday has worked best for me. Although i have caught them on chromies the halco laser pro's seem to catch most of my mac's. I don't know how true it is but i remember seeing a fishing program about mac's and there is something about there eyes being senstive to the light and in the earlier hours of the day they will be closer to the surface, and during the middle of the day they will stay deeper where it is a bit darker. Sorry to ramble on but just thought it was quite interesting.

    Re: Bay Mackeral

OK, I have asked this question here before. The advice I got was to head for the sand hills on Moreton Island and look for the birds. I did, I saw the birds, I even saw the mackerel carving up the bait balls. I just didn't catch any. So, the location was good but the skill level on my part was lacking.

Good luck with it. All we need is for this bloody wind to go away.

I have heard to target them (Spaniards) in the morning and late afternoon on or about the surface and deeper during the day. Reason for this is apparently they have no aperture in their eyes.
