    Fishing Vanuatu

Hi Ausfishers and guests. I am booked to go to Vanuatu from April 7th to 23rd with the family and wondering how many of you have been there fishing and do you have any tips as to the best charter boats? Best place for a land fish? Crustaceans IE where to dive for crays and are there mud crabs there etc etc.
Any informaiton on Vanuatu from anyone will be helpfull so dont hold back.
I have done extensive research on the web but the information is mainly advertising so I thought it best to get a real idea from actual visitors to the region.

Newby - have a look here http://www.oceanblue.com.vu/ and if you want to contact them the guy you need to talk with is Anthony Pisano. If you have a look at www.whatsonwater.com.au and click on the fishing link you should see a movie from one of his charter trips.

    Chris
    Cheers,

Cheers mate. I have been to the Ocean Blue site among many others. I have researched extensively on the net but am wanting first hand reports of people who have been there and actually fished with various operators.
    Thanks again Chris

I will let you know for sure Chris. This trip is part holiday and part research for me as I am contemplationg a move over there to live.
Business is getting to hard here in Australia with legislation, registration, fees, taxes, duty's, permits, more taxes, more restrictions and less incentive to succeed every time I open my doors.
    Bring on April...lol

mate, was there a few years ago, had a bit of a disaster on the fishing charter front, booked one on the last day, at the pier at iriki a 5 in morning, never turned up, after 2 hours waiting went back to sleep, there was some kind of laungage mix up between islands and apparently we were to go to their island first,
about the crabs not sure on muddies, but they do have coconut crabs, bit of delicacy and about to be put on endanged species list, really fine meat and the only time ever my missus finished her meal before me

Hey Newby stop into the shop for a quick chat tomorrow (better be quick as we are moving to HBay on Thu.) I was over there a couple of years ago for a fishing charter with the Ocean Blue mob and I will steer you in a better direction, the fishing is unbelievable though. Have had a few thoughts about moving there myself. Also one of the Gladdy locals is thinking of selling his house in Port Villa I will let you know more if you are interested.

Hi we went to port vila last sept, i managed to get on a charter with a guy from port maquarie on our last day there.
the boat was a 23 ft Bertram called Hinaura 6 hours cost $400each, bit exy but the fishings awesome we started trolling about 5 ks from the harbour
3 hours without a hit then picked up a bonito which went down for live bait it wasn t down there 30 secs before it got smashed by what turned out to be a wahoo.
we then trolled and did the same again, this time it was my turn, boated another fish and later lost another.
had a great day, crew new their stuff and tried really hard to produce for us

    Re: Fishing Vanuatu

Went their for my honey moon last october, All the charters where way to overprised being $400 per person with only odd fish being caught. Seen one boat one day come in with one dollie. Was there for a 9 days stayed at irriki island it was awesome, people were awesome food was awesome I reccomend their Pad Thia it was soooooooooo gooooooooood. All in all, a mate i meet went out on a charter for a day raised 1 Marlin but that was all for the day . The charter guys i spoke too were a bit too cocky for my likeing as they talk the talk but can't walk the walk, (present catch numbers showed this) tried asking a few questions but they disregarded me all together , also deckie was a smart arse saying aust game fishing was shit compared to their, so i guess they never been to cairns and fished for large blacks and sails, and i think i caught more marlin in one day on the coast then i seen them take in 9 days chartering, was very pi**ed off with thier deckie thought it was quite sad actually. There was one charter boat in a berty that did well one day with 12 dollies and 3 Marlin one was quite big maybe 350lb and a couple of hoo for a 3 day trip. In my opinion Your better off spending your money on Rum and dry unless you come accross a decent skipper. i did hear however that i guy bye the name of Ben was the man too see but you must request for him to be on the boat, i did not get a hold of him as he was all booked. If you do go on one, do your reasearch as its not hard to show you pics of fish from trips done ages ago. Good luck.

    Cheers

Thanks for that Matty. Thats why I posted on here. Pics of all the charters look great but the reality is, all is not as it seems. Which charter company did you go with? We are staying at Le Lagon as it is apparently a great place for kids.
