    Shimano bullwhip

    Hello,

I recently aquired a Shimano Bullwhip Fightin' rod.. Baitcaster style 5'6" 6-15lb (BW-1551).

It's in pretty reasonable condition, obviously used with a few imperfections but for al intents and purposes looks like a good solid rod.

I've never seen them before nor can I seem to dig up much information.

Anyone able to shed some light on these rods? What are they worth?

I guess what I'm trying to do is decide whether to sell it or keep it for if I end up purcashing a bait caster at some point down the line.

    Cheers

    Matt.

Whoa now thats a blast from the past ........Bullwhips used to be a popular item 15/20 years ago or more.........

Is the one you have a pistol grip or the longer handle type?........i'm pretty sure lot's of them were interchangable.

They were fairly common so i don't think they would be a collector's item yet.......or worth a great deal of money...........you might aswell put a reel on it and learn how to use a baitcaster......

    Cheers

It's in damn good shape for 15-20 years old.. I would have thought it only 5 years at the outside.

She's a single peice pistol grip.

Good little jack rod those ones albeit they are prone to knocks and explosion incidents but very nice to use. Wish i still had my pair of them.

Like the others have said they were all the the go 10 -15 yrs ago first of the cheaper production carbons but were very prone to snapping under load. I think they called them bullwhips because of the huge crack they make when they explode.

Nothing a bit of clag glue wouldn't fix.

I have had one of these for many years Matt, used a fair bit and kept in near perfect condition. Fantastic lightweight stick for flathead, whiting, bream, trevally, etc, and would hold a reasonable Jack or Barra though a big one will not be easy. 2nd hand prices in the US around US$175, and ones I saw not in very good condition. Pair it with a Lews Lazer MG or a Shimano Bantam Magnumlite 2000GT (both small, good quality and lightweight - I have one of each) with 10 - 15kg braid, light enough to cast for hours. Tight Lines.
