Anyone interested in doing an overnighter off Double Island ?? I'm keen to give it a try in the next couple of months weather permitting. Two boats makes it a lot safer
G'day mate,
I've just arrived down here in Brisbane, and would be keen to go out with someone who knows their way around. I'm unsure where double island is however. I have a Quintrex 530 bowrider with a 115 on the back and decked out with all the gear for offshore ie EPIRB/VHF etc, is this going to be big enough to get to double island and what do you catch there? I can rustle up a deckie for my boat, and am happy with a friday or saturday overnighter.
I have done a bit of fishing off of Townsville my last home and prior to that out of Darwin, but have only done a day trip thus far to Tangalooma so am very novice to Brisbane waters.
Anyhow let me know dates when you have them.
cheers
steve

Hi Steve,
Offshore overnight at Double Island might be a tad ambitious in a 5.3m boat the conteintal shelf is about 40+ miles out. There is some great fishing around Brisbane. You might try Hutchinsons Shoals about 8 k north of Cape Morton the Wahoo should be around soon the water is nice and Blue indicating warm currents.
Cheers John
I have been thinking about a trip out past the northern banks to the Hards for a while. Overnight of course. Is this the sort of area you are thinking?
I have a 575 outsider with a 135 Opti that should give 160nm of range
John, I'd be keen, I dont know the area there too well though, only fished it a few times and not too wide, I normally fish banks/hards although plan to spend more time off DI (from carlo ramp) once weather settles a bit,
keep in touch - cheers - Craig
Hi John we will be doing an overnighter as soon as the weather comes good I can send you a PM when we are going if you are keen. We normally leave from Tin Can and come back about lunch time the next day. What type of rig are you running? We are in a 6.8 fisher centre cab with suzi 225 and usually use between 200 - 300ltrs off fuel for the trip depending on how far up north we go.
Hi Guys,
I have not been to the DI area yet but keen to go. It looks like we might get more than 2 boats if we plan this right. I've got a 6.25 Crusie Craft and done overnighters to the Barwons and the Hards but I have been reading Greg (Reef Master's) reports over the past couple of years and I'm HOT for one of those big RED fish. What's the best spot to launch from?
John
Tin Can would be the shortest towing distance in from Gympie to launch, other options are Rainbow Beach at Carlo Pt marina, some at Bullock Pt up along the road to Inskip Point
