    haines 580 sf

    hey all
looking at buying a mid 90's 580 sf wondering has anyone owned one of these and what did they think of it? positives and or negatives. it is the earlier model with the pod just putting the outboard back about 2-300mm out from the transom, not a moulded extention of the hull like the later models seem to be. what i really want to know is how much would this effect the ride between the older / newer models if at all? any thoughts would be appreciated

    Gidday mate
I have been in the 560sf and they ride pretty good in most conditions. They have been known to dip the bow if driven hard in a following sea but otherwise up there against my 580f.The 580f is heavier therefore rides a bit softer. You can only travel as quick as conditions and vessel will allow.Jim

G'day mate, i currently own a 580c haines hunter which i am very impressed with there ride, boat is a 93 model so i do think there is much difference on the underside of the hull except for transom setup, mate been in alot of 18 to 19 footers of that vintage and to me the 580 takes the cake for ride quality, the only thing i would fault with the hull is at rest in 15 knt plus chop they can be fairly sloppy compared to other brands also mine has 160ltr fuel capacity which can limit your range when doing extended trips say 1770 as i belive and as others state on here you should always budget to atleast to have quarter of a tank left when returning to ramp as you will chew that up if conditions get bad, final note i feel 150hp is a great match for these hulls.Hope this helps cheers Brent

very happy with my '89 HH560SL- has an after market 600mm pod though - goes like a champion with 130hpYAM 2st - very seaworthy - no dramas in any following sea - including 15/20knts wind on 2m downwind swell last week

seems a lot of manufacturers were playing around with pods around this time - some better than others

suggest take it for a run in heavy weather

great boat rides nicely in bad weather. can be set up to be a awesome trailer game boat or set up to fish the bays. get someone to check hull and motor out first if that gets the thumbs up then go for it you wont be disappointed

    Hey Mate
I had a 570 champion 1999 model with a 130 johno 160ltr fuel, was a great boat, perfectly balanced rig,it handled any conditions very well, only thing missing was trim tabs that would have made a big difference, they do roll in a swell, what i found is that you trim them right the harder you push them the better they ride. Good luck
