Thought that I might try fishing for Dart/WH/Bream using plastic sand worms in the Surf in the SE Qld... How do I rig these up and do you have any hints.
hey mate iv all ways used them the same as i have real worms same rig just slip the plastic on to the hook threding it through the middle i like to leave a bit extra hanging off the hook. thats just how i use them an its worked every time.
I have suprising ly had a lot if sucess with the worm
flatty yes (love em)****
jew yes (very good at the right time )
bream , they hit em
leave a inch at the top and you ok
cut a cm off the bottom if you think they are too big and your missin bream
nuke chook worm is a hit and anything with red is good for flattie.
mixed though, I have not done a lot of surf with them but hey, why not.
make em long enuff to look like a worm(wrigGLe), but also short enuff for a hit
Mate I've used them quite a bit in the Surf. You can rig them up as you would a normal worm on a normal bait rig, or on a jighead. You can cut them up to give you more bait however my preferred way is the whole worm on as light a jighead as you need to cast where you want to get. You will get fish on the worm stationary (fished like a bait) or moving, once again, I prefer moving, just a very slow steady retrieve works fine and if there isn't a lot of movement surf wise, you can give some twitches now and then. In my experience using them, Whiting and Dart love them, I've never got flathead on them and Bream seem to prefer the real thing over the plastic (though I fished them a bit in the tweed river recently and hordes of baby Bream kept impaling themselves on 'em).
