Luring the MIDDLE Brisbane river area?

    Hi everyone.
I live around the St. Lucia / Long Pocket / Indooroopilly area of the brisbane river and often put the kayak in for a bit of fun.
There's tonnes of catties around, and I'm after info on how to catch them with lures, if possible. I paddle around to keep fit, but tow lures just to see what happens...
Does anyone know what kind of tactics and lures would work in this area? Any fish at all - not just the catties.
    Cheers.

yeah troll em why not, it couldn't hurt to give it a go.

There is flatties and cod there that I know.

and I'm guessing you might hook a jew in winter.

As for catties I doubt they will hit a trolled lure too often.

other methods that may yeild a threadie or bream does not involve trolling but hopping a lightly weighted soft plastic along the bottom or a jackal/vibe style lure
hopped along the bottom (this is a method for threadies).

I would give the trolling a go first.

    cheers

You might even hook a threadfin salmon, have you tried to troll a livie (donk know if you can on a yak?)

    Cheers, Mick.

In a magazine I just finished they are targeting Threadies in the Brissy River and they are using TT Switchblades and catching all sorts from Cod - Threadies even the odd Snapper but that is further up near the mouth. As others have said trolling a lure couldn't hurt.

suprise the TT could hold a good thready, they are tiny with tiny hooks (1/8 TT)

I notice there is a new range, bigger than the 1/8 (maybe they used those ones), I would have bought one but Im kinda over it, best (easiest ) way to catch a threadie is with live prawn or live herring.

    cheers

Speaking of livies - can you catch them in this area of the river? Mullet etc..

yeah, prawns and herring too (cast net)

might be a bit quiet with all the fresh and mud but it should fire up soon when it starts to clear up a bit.

    Hi,
I'm from that Indroopilly area. I know there's faltties around there, because I've bloody caught 'em. I've caught some big bream (my biggest infact) around oxley creek. I know catties will hit lures.........but big ones can be a bit of fun. I've evan got school jew up there around the bridge! A fair few too. There are threadies up there and I've seen them caught. And the odd eel.

That just about covers it. Definetly give it a try (use bright lures).

    Cheers.

By the way make sure your lure's hitting the bottom (helps with flatties).

    Cool. Thanks for the info.

Lot easier to fish near home than drive out to the coast, especially during the week.

A big thready would certainly be fun on a Yak hehe. We caught one last year off the Jindalee boat ramp on a packet prawn believe it or not. We had caught some big live prawns with a cast net between the jetty next to the boat ramp and the bank, but this fish wanted the packet prawn lol. Never tried throwing lures around there but i'll make sure i have some with me next time.

    Cheers
