    Maroon Dam 8/01/09

    Hi All

Went for a bit of a fish before work at Maroon on Thursday.

Arrived around 4.30 am to find empty boat ramp and calm morning.
Headed to the bay near the ski huts and scored a couple of fish on small squidgie fish, nothing too big.

Then worked the steep bank to the right of the wall in amongst the saplings to score lots of hits on poppers but nothing stayed connected. Scored a couple of small fry on small hardbodies. Had to get the spiders crawling all over you to get a fish.

Then went to the back of the dam to see lots of topwater activity but never scored a hit on anything. Tried softies, spinnerbaits, poppers, all to no avail. The temperature gauge on the sounder at the surface was 83 degrees fahrenheit. Dont what that converts to but that is hot water.

Come back to the point near the boat ramp to score a couple of legal size bass on live shrimp. The tin lids went home happy to catch a couple of fish.

Back at boat ramp around 8.30.
So in summary it was a struggle to catch a fish, not so much to get a hit, the fish we did catch were in poor condition, very thin and looked liked they needed a good feed.
The water up the back is still tinged with Algae and very hot, the rest of the dam the water clarity is OK.
The water level has stopped rising, it is good to see it so full. It is about 65-70% full, but for us old timers Maroon would be full, at the old water level.

Hopefully the water will cool and settle down, for the bass to bite again soon.

    Cheers

Hi there Budgebass, 83 degrees Fahrenheit is roughly 28.3 degrees celsius. I took my wife out this morning for a fish. And we did it pretty tough. It was blowing easiely 20knots this morning and the water temp was around 25-26degrees. We meet up with some friends out on their boat. I caught my only 1 bass directly across from the boat ramp and my wife caught her 1st bass on lipless crank bait over towards the creek side. Had few hook ups but dropped em before the fight even started. Our friends did it tough too with a few hook ups but then pulled hooks. These fish can be tough to find and catch at times. All in all we had a good morning together. Maybe next time it starts getting better.

    smoked
(when Im dead) my biggest FEAR is that my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.........
