Not a bad land based sesh 14 fish from 6 till 12 with many more dropped, 5 bass going better thean 50. Everyone cracked a pb today. Matt with a 52cm (4cm improvement) fork length bass, Dad with another 52cm (2.5cm) , Jake with a 47 (1cm), I managed a 52cm (3cm) yellow. Fish came from the steep rocky banks mostly on jackells.

Stopped at fernvale for a celebratory feed (good pies). Couldn't get the smiles off everyones faces. Poor Jake is the only one to not have cracked a 50 now, but he can wait. Dads been waiting 30 years for a 50 (spent most of his time chasing wildies) and for him to get one in style with a 52 was the highlight of the day.

Me and my Mate were only talking today about givin big W a run, we've never fished it before, done Sommerset many times but the whole electric only thing worry's me a bit, buggered if the wind gets up, even runnin 2 x 36lb motors!!! Gonna give a new spot a go down here on the Goldy on Saturday, my father-in-law has just moved out the hinterland and a certain creek runs right through the property and looks very Bassy, as an added bonus the place came with a pair of canoes!!!!! Sounds too good to be true, will let you know how I go, Thanx again for the tips, Cheers, Jamie.
Matt was fishing a green and black striped tn/50 (old lake police model) and getting 3 times more hits than anyone else but was having really lousy luck keeping the hooks in, he easily lost 10 fish mid fight. I was fishing a regular tn/60 green and gold, dad a pale green tn/60 Jake persisted with a half ounce spinnerbait for most of the day. Not really sure how fussy they are on colour but definately showed a preference to size. Surprisingly not a single cattie graced us with its presence (luckily for them) today. If you recall I have recently been out on wivenhoe chasing bass with the uni and we were getting more catties than bass by an order of magnitude at one stage. I'm hoping all the catties have moved onto the grassy flats and have p!ssed off from the bass schools good and proper.Originally Posted by Nic
Well done Jeremy, that is a top session and congrates to all on the PB,s. Have never been to Wivenhoe but hearing of all these 50+cm bass from there certainly makes a trip up from the coast a good idea. Pardon my ignorance, but is Wivenhoe an electric only dam like Hinze?
That it is, i'm setting my canoe up as we speak to make it more impoundment fishing friendly (wacking a colour sounder on it). Wivenhoe is big and there is alot of water between fish if you don't know what your looking for. It took me a few days of fishing from a boat to actually suss these spots out where i'm fishing land based.
Yeh give it go, just wait until a day with a good forecast though as you can get some serious waves push up that dam. A good sounder is vital for this dam as most of the fish are down deep. Trolling a deep deep diver in 15 or so metres of water is a good starting point to find schools and avoiding catties. Once you've found a patch crack out the jackells and jigs and have a crack. The creek situation sounds awsome, looking forward to seeing some photo's of you with some big bass.Awesome day out Jeremy, some cracker fish. Nice work Jeremy. Looks like the bass are still pushed up against that bank. I might have to talk a couple of mates into a landbased session up that way. Did you have much of a problem with loosing lures, and did you try the metal slugs again?
