what size jig head for the brizzy river and mud?

Ok this winter i plan on hitting the river and mud for the first time chasing my first legal snapper.

My question is what size jig head do you guys use as a start. I'm aware you change it to suit conditions.

    thanks

As with any area you have to adjust your weight to suit the conditions.

Current/tide, wind speed and direction, depth the fish are feeding/holding at and the size of plastic are all variables that change constantly so no one can recommend one particular size as the right one.

1/6 and 1/8 would be my most commonly used in the deeper parts of the river but be prepared to use anything from a 1/2 when using bulky profile plastics and the tide is running hard, to a 1/16 with smaller plastics and at the top or bottom of the tides when the movement is next to nothing.

I'll use anything from 1/40 up to 3/4 in anywhere from 1 ft to 50ft ... as are all places very varied in my opinion.

At Mud Island I use 1/8th mostly, or 1/6th if the current or wind is strong. Never used heavier then that at Mud.

No, you read it right ... 1/40th of an oz. Depends on depth, tidal flow, wind and where the fish are holding in the water column ... also be prepared to go into the shallows, you will catch snapper in a couple of feet or in 50ft so best to have you bases covered.
