300mm float might be a bit small for the 15lb anchor (not too sure) but I use 2x 300mm balls for my reef pic and it works a treat. ps, I have the anchor rope through the ss ring all the time, it never comes off, I see no need, as said above, KISS - cheers
Do these things work on cats? I've used them on monos with great success.
I have a feeling the rope is going to go under the tunnel when trying to drive the anchor to the surface with a cat. But not tried it so not real sure.

There are plenty of good and bad in clips and rings.
The good..Rings....
Allow the the buoy to return all the way thru to the anchors neck
Great in shallow water retrieval of less than 10mts.
The bad... they struggle to keep the buoy down in deep water anchoring..
Clips...
The good...non return clips work great in deep anchoring as the clip and buoy is forced to the anchor
They also prevent buoys from returning back to the hull and slap against it which can be a pain in overnighters.
The bad is when shallow anchoring and they stop at the end of rope
which can lead to anchor still on the bottom depending on length of chain..
To solve all of these i use an anka yanka with a clip attached this way i can choose which way to go whether i anchor deep or shallow

I once hooked up on some serious bottom an at the time was using the non return style clip, the clip went down alright an unable to pop the anchor at all in any direction the 10mm rope I was using eventually snapped at the bollard on the boat an guess what.....Anchor gone, chain gone an my ball an clip somewhere down there too
Would strongly suggest at the least a ring and I use a similiar device to the anchor yanker (removable clip) these days as I find because I do both inshore an offshore fishing sometimes for me anyways there is no need to have the ball attatched to the rope permantly
